Just you and me now, kid...

I love my cars, and I get emotionally attached to them. A month or so ago was a happy day for me when I fell in love with my new BRZ, and I'm still head over heals in love with it. But today was a sad day for me, as I reluctantly sold my previous car, a 2006 Legacy. 190K I racked up on that car, and did every single bit of service and repair on it myself. Through lots of snow, long and short trips alike, and every road condition possible. It left me today, in a very similar condition to the day it was new. But time to move on. From now on, it's just me and the BRZ. With snow tires, RWD in bad weather, no storage, hard ride on bad roads, and barely room for two. There are no practical reasons to justify my love for this car. But I accept that, and now we are a couple. Wish us luck.

Sounds like my story, so I know how you feel. I just sold my 1998 Outback to someone. It had 286,000 miles on it, and it was the car I learned to drive on, and my only vehicle for the first 8 years of my driving career. I loved that car dearly and did all the work on it myself as well (self-taught, starting with that car too.) I wish to death I didn't have to sell it, but it was too much of a mess to keep both vehicles. I'm in the same situation though. I will miss the utility, go-anywhere, room-for-things-ness of that car, and this car as an only vehicle doesn't really make THAT much sense...
...until I sit in the new BRZ. Then it makes TONS of sense. Still miss the wagon, though. When I posted on FB that I had sold it, all my friends freaked out asking how in the hell I could possible sell it, and that they thought I would be buried in it. Some of them said they actually felt emotionally attached to it even though it was MY car. Lots of stories in that wagon. Lots.

*cries*

I have a 2003 WRX wagon that I can't bring myself to sell (original owner). I use it more than the BRZ bc it does all the shopping mall trips (no door ding worries) and is great when it rains. Seeing how you're in MD, I'm surprised you sold the Legacy right before winter! Sure, thats when you get top dollar, but its also when you need it the most.

Sold my 2005 Legacy 2.5i Limited before I bought the BRZ. Had nearly 200k miles on it, and a lot of memories. But it was time for something new, you know?

Sounds like you do know. :)

Congrats, and keep that love affair going.

I had one of those and loved it at the time. It was my grocery getter and the kids loved it. I also took it out and hammered it around the logging roads and gravel of Oregon on the weekends. It was a bombproof vehicle.

Still have my 2002 WRX Wagon with 230k along with the BRZ
They really compliment each other
BRZ never gets driven in the rain
WRX gets the dirty work
I take care of both

How much did you get for your legacy? I can't imagine it helped you out too much on your purchase.. might have not been a bad idea to keep it around and have the BRZ for when the weather isn't so bad

Logically, you are correct. I didn't get much for it. And emotionally, I really wanted to keep it, especially for the winter. But there were other issues that came into play and sort of made it the best decision to get rid of it. It needed four new tires, timing belt maintenance was coming due, and most of all, it was simply screwing up the parking situation at my household. In the end, I decided to dive in head first with just the BRZ, and commit to the long term marriage with it that I had with the Legacy. Blizzaks went on last night. :)

Ok, now you're sounding WAY too creepily the same as me, lol.

I still feel that way about our 97 OB Ltd. It only had ~200,000 miles on it and ran great but the susp needed replacing, timing belt was up again and it was just generally tired. I was being a wussy and didn't want to do the work so I sold it for $500 just to get it out of the way before it got snowed in until March. That was at the end of 2008 and I still think I should have just turned it into the all out family household type truckster and kept it.
