Matching HID's and DRL's

Hey guys I was just looking up some HID's and was wondering does anyone have a HID setup that's close to the same color of LED DRL's? Its a little sketchy to just buy some LED bulbs by just eyeballing because you cant really tell if they look more like 5Ks or 6Ks. Thanks.

Pretty sure it is around 5K.

diode dynamics isn't all hype. Wonderful products. Blows OLM out of the water.

Not to jack thread, but why are HID headlights not as bright when combined with LED DRLs?
Is there anyway around it?

What do you mean exactly?
The LED DRLs have nothing to do with HID brightness.
Maybe I'm not understanding your question.

From diode dynamics:
Please note: *LED DRLs are for cosmetic purposes only.*The bulbs will turn on as high beams, but they will not project like your factory high beam.*Essentially, you will lose your high beam functionality. This is the case with all LED DRL replacements, not just Diode Dynamics.

For most cars, the DRL is a halogen bulb (typically in the high beam area).
Most LEDs that people put in the DRL are no where near as bright as the halogen it replaced.
It isn't related to HIDs at all.

LEDs currently on the market do not distribute light in the same way as a halogen bulb at all, meaning your beam projection is going to be very poor. While it may seem brighter because of the cool white color, you'll actually be decreasing the functional output by using LEDs in a low beam or high beam application.

This is why we only offer LEDs for fog lamps, a non-critical component, until we find a solution for headlights that distributes light in a way that meets standards for DOT compliance. It would not look like anything you currently see on the market though- lots of work to be done.

DD offers an HID DRL option, does it dim like the halogen bulb to function as a drl, and then go to full brightness for high beam?

I think he may be talking about the LED DRL that are on the bumper that come as an option on these cars. I have 6k I believe and it looks bang on with the LED DRLs

No, the HID's will not function correctly at the half-power setting.

Thank you!
For the HID DRL kit offered if it functions at full brightness I assume then the recommendation would be to disable the DRL function to prevent blinding other drivers? so it only functions as high beam then?
