AVO Turboworld 2.5 inch catback exhaust review

Hey all,

I have been doing a lot of searching on this forum and elsewhere to find information about this exhaust before and after my purchase. So far I could not find any useful information. Therefore, I decided to do a review of my own.

Disclaimer : I was able to acquire the exhaust for a great deal from a fellow user (Thanks @Art_Mighty) . It retails for a little over $1,000. I had my mind set on a Perrin 2.5 inch cat-back but because I got a great deal on this exhaust I took a chance.

First Impressions : When I first opened the packaging, I was impressed with the quality. 304 Stainless steel used throughout and great looking welds (see pictures below). Only disappointment was a dent on the back side of the muffler. I highly doubt it was damaged during delivery because of the way it was packaged. Therefore, it probably left the factory like that. Bummer, but won't be seen and doesn't affect sound or effectiveness of the exhaust.

Install & Fitment : Install was very simple. This is a 3 piece kit rather than the two piece OEM catback. A nice installation sheet was supplied showing steps and tools necessary to complete the job. Overall, took me about an hour and a half to remove OEM catback and instal the AVO kit.

Upon firing it up for the first time, I went back and checked for leaks. Had a small leak from the s-pipe to the mid pipe. Loosened and retightened bolts which took care of the leak.

Fitment was great. The kit follows the same path as the OEM catback. Muffler lined up well inside the existing cutouts. No problems with the factory hangers. S-pipe had enough clearance around the rear axel/suspension.

Overall impressions :
Sound The exhaust sounds great. A little rasp on cold start (see video) but it goes away quickly. In cabin, it is not much louder than the OEM exhaust, just much deeper and aggressive tone. No drone and quiet at cruising speeds. This is exactly what I was looking for. My girlfriend even said she couldn't tell much of difference. When accelerating and WOT it really sounds nice. Much more aggressive.

Quality and design : The quality of the welds, the stainless steel, flanges and hardware where great. My only thought is why keep the S design from the muffler to the mid pipe? Why not go straight from the back of the muffler to the mid pipe like the Perrin catback? Maybe some more digging would shed light on this.

Final word : I probably would have not bought this exhaust at full price. It's a bit more expensive than it's competitors using the same 304 stainless steel. However, I am very happy with this purchase. I think it is great quality and sounds great. I have no plans to get rid of the catback. I can't wait until the spring to add a nameless down pipe and UEL header (probably borla). Will be interesting to see how this setup sounds.

Sadly, the car has to go into the garage for the winter  later this week after a good bath. We had our first snow this past week in Indianapolis (as you can see in the video). Cold start in the video is at 20 Fahrenheit (1 degree Fahrenheit when calculating in wind chill). Video quality and camera mounts aren't the greatest, but it does a decent job of capturing the sound.

Hopefully this post helps. Just wanted to praise AVO Turboworld for a great product and allow others to get some quality information about the system.
