Winter Driving 2014

So who is driving this winter? I plan to drive the BRZ the entire winter. I plan to get my snow tires/wheels tomorrow. Yesterday I winged it. RWD + Summer tires + Snow = Not too fun, but I didn't crash either!

Put mine on last night!

Mounted mine last night too. It's my only car so I don't really have a choice anyway :P

I'll be buying a set of bugeye WRX wheels tomorrow for the winter, so I can store the 17's away for a while.

Oil change today and will be putting snow tires on my stock rims Monday morning.

What tires are you guys planning on running?

AznBRZer 11-14-2014 04:57 PM

Michelin X-Ice 3's. The drive is a lot better than Blizzaks when cold and dry, but Blizzaks bite moderately better in the snow. I'd say road noise is pretty much the same.

Meh I've been driving rwd bmws for the last 5 winters with no traction control and summer tires. I think the brz on prius tires will be fine.

Not to come out swinging or anything, but unless you have a really good reason for doing so (like one or two quick trips to the store all winter long), that's a pretty dumb thing to do. That's like telling people they don't need a jacket when it's 20 degrees outside because you've been wearing t-shirts for the past 5 winters.

To answer the other question: I've used Blizzak WS70s in the past and they were fantastic in snow. On dry pavement they wear rather quickly though. This year I decided to try the opposite end of the spectrum and got General Altimax Arctics for pretty much half the price. We shall see if that means half the performance or not. From what I've read they aren't really that much worse.

I bought snow tires to go on the stock wheels (going to make the swap in the next week or two, depending on weather).

Have another set of wheels that will get summer rubber - ready by springtime 2015

I'm all about snow driving... Got my winter rally wheels (Sparco Terra 17) and Dunlop Wintersport 4D tires and RA flaps.

Winter driving in RWD with snow tires is a blast! Due to all the chemicals/gravel/salt used around here I'll be keeping mine garaged during winter and will either just not drive or use one of our trucks.

Wide Pilot Super Sports + RWD = no go when it snows.

It's whatever. e36 m3 didn't have it at all, and I had an electrical failure in the e46 zhp.

Fuck me, right?
