New Hawk pads out

Ive seen these new hawk street 5.0 pads and street/race pad. Both claiming higher fade resistance and greater torque. I dont know prices yet but is anyone planning to test these?

Given that we've tested everything in Hawk's lineup, it's probably a HP+ variant with a decent price point to garnish sales. While it works, the dust corrodes everything it touches if you leave it on longer than a couple days.

hmm i see. ive had hp+ before on a different car and they squealed all the time, just terrible. i was planning on hc800 for the spring of next year.

Those will squeal too. Actually all hybrid and enduro pads are the worst.

So what's the closest preferred pad for non corrosive, non metallic, low dusting, minimal squeal, gets up to temp on the street within a couple minutes, and will launch a Recaro through your windshield?

You listed everything that every single person wants: no dust, no noise, works for racing, excellent for DD.

Anyways, what's your ultimate goal with these pads? What's the breakdown for track, autocross, spirited mountain runs, and DD? What tire and power are you running? :)

i run thru some midnight seaports and a couple times a years im on track. im on stoptech streets now, which hold up on track and dont squeal but they glaze like crazy when you return to normal street driving.

Will the hps cause the same dust corrosive situation. I have stoptech street sport and they dust like crazy, thinking of going back to stock.

If you glaze that means you overheated the pads like crazy. I highly suggest you use a full track pad. You will like the bite, modulation, and heat capacity of them. About 95% of the community will use track pads and never go back to street pads simply due to the added performance.

Hawk is known for it. Generally speaking, HPS is equivalent to maybe a W0.5 in the Winmax world or slightly below the Project Mu NS400. Dust is just a function of a performance pad. If you want low dust, then OEM is the best, however, OEM still dusts as well. If dust is not present in high performance pads, it means something else is wearing.

To be accurate, I said low non corrosive dust and low squeal (not grinding). I didn't ask for a unicorn so I do expect tradeoffs. Grinding/noise doesn't really bother me, but making children cry when they hear my brakes or having to explain to every neighbor why my brakes sound like that get's effing annoying.

Let's say spirited mountain/touge=DD=100% For track I'd run different pads, wheel/tire combos. For street compound let's say up to Ventus levels of grip. For DD reference, I've glowed and smoked my rotors during street and highway driving before on a 2400lb car and scared pedestrians back across the crosswalk coming to a controlled stop. So the pads needs to be up to snuff when I go pick up the groceries.

Oh power, no more than 300hp. And also a linear feeling pad if possible. I don't like having variable ratio steering in my brake pedal.

If you're at the level of driving that you state you are doing, then stick with track pads. Grinding means you're out of pad and squealing is also a function of what's in the pad and for what purpose. Enduro pads squeal. Hybrid pads squeal. Track pads meant for sprint racing or time attack squeak at most. Your rotors won't die from the pads mentioned. They may or may not groove your rotors, but they will be fine. As long as you don't have spots on your rotors, you are fine. Spots = overheating

With that said: Carbotech XP10 or XP12 F/R, Project Mu Club Racer or 999 F/R, Winmax W5 or W6 F/R.

Bed them in properly and they will be silent. You will "stop on a dime" and be able to do a lot of fun stuff. The cold bite even on a 0ºF day is superior to OEM or "street" pads.
