Birds Nests and Poop

So I've been having this problems with birds nesting right above my garage and pooping on my cars for the last few summers.

It seems like there's a new spot of poop on my car every day! I want to get rid of them but I don't want to kill em. Does anyone have experience with moving the nests without disturbing/hurting the chicks? I hear that if the mother smells a person's scent on the nest, it will abandon the nest and babies entirely.

I remember looking into that years ago for curiousity's sake. Birds have a pretty terrible sense of smell.

If I was you I would just keep checking for when it is empty. And when it is, destroy it. Or if you feel better about it staple canvas or something underneath the nest so the droppings hit the canvas instead of your vehicles.

It's not when they are nesting that they poop on my car. It's when they are flying. The nests are under the overhang of the roof and there is a small portion of my garage's roof below that. They must be dropping their stinky loads right before they reach their nests.

I was thinking of throwing a rubber snake up on the roof when they have gone but no stores seem to sell them anymore.

LOL.

Rubber snake.

You could try any rubber toy.. go to Dollarama, do they not sell them anymore?

There poop is quite toxic for one, and for two they kill your clear coat and paint.

I would just remove the nest, and give it a good wash down, add something up there to prevent them from coming back, or other birds.

However, if you are more humane, than I would just remove the nest with a ladder, what's the worst that can happen?:iono:

Buy a chain saw.

I hear it might be illegal to disturb the birds while they are nesting. You apparently have to wait until the winter when they are gone.

I read that one dude tried removing a nest himself and it broke apart spilling bird crap, feathers and dead chicks onto him....

I did try this. Hope it work. Get some used CD hang it on the tree or buy some reflecting strip then tie it on the tree. I did try the second one, it works!

They sell plastic Owls for stuff like this.

EDIT: On second thought... "Also works well for attracting crows". Why would you want to attract bigger "poopers"?

I think you're worrying about too many what-if's... I say if there's no chicks there and there's no birds in there you should just remove the nest.
