Waxing/washing guides for noobies?
Just wondering if anyone has a guide or tips on waxing/washing. Possibly brands/products that you recommend would be helpful as well. Thanks

-I recommend Mothers Gold Car wash cuz its super sudzy
-Use a two bucket system -soft microfiber mesh wash mittens are best on new paint. -Have plenty of Microfiber towels and Terry Cloth on hand for good results. -If your car is dirty, use bug and tar remover before you start your main wash. -Wash in sections -Don't use the same wash mitt on your paint as you do on your wheels. -Don't wash in direct sunlight..aka you want your panels cool so it wont dry up before your rinse. -Don't let your car air dry to avoid water spots, dry minerals can really damage clear coat. Waxing is up to your preference, so i wont get into it. Although having a good applicator is helpful vs using a towel. |

Hmm, I like using different mitts for the lower body of the car, get a lot of crap there, at least on my current car, in Toronto. So I would say three mitts. You can use a leaf blower to dry off your car too. Quick Detail & than Wax at the end works well too, applicator + microfiber to buff it out. Pre-Wash is always good, start from the top and work your way down, I save wheels for last. |
I just started using paint sealant instead of wax. Was looks better, but sealant lasts longer I think. You can always put wax on top of sealant if you want that warm glow.
Auto Geek has tons of car care info. You should check it out. Here's there article on wax vs sealants. The only problem I have with that site is that every time I go there, I want to spend more money :) Brett |
+1 for Auto Geek. There's tons of info on there. I got really into detailing over the past couple years. I just posted in the journal section.
