What you should do is probably buy a set of used regular headlights ( repinning is needed if you had mono/10/rs headlights and it won't cost you more than 150-200 for a set) and run it for now until your new headlights come. Then resell the used set afterwards so you won't be losing much. If anything you'll lose and gain nothing.

Why the hell would they ship by boat, that's like the slowest and worst thing they can do.

Because they're not interested in expediency, but rather the most cost effective means of shipment. Shipping by container on a boat may take long but it's cheaper and you can ship more per unit cost.

Because of large shipments of parts I assume. It's not one warehouse they have to fill up, there's like 2-5 warehouses that supplies every dealership in the Bay Area and it's not cheap flying all those parts from Japan. They also have to sort the parts at the warehouse to make sure it's going to the right place. Remember, it's not just FRS parts, it's also the safety recall parts for the other cars. Those have been backordered for months since they have to distribute them almost evenly throughout dealerships as well as state and country.

So everyone who is waiting for replacement parts in NorCal are waiting for the same boat to arrive. We should find like a ETA and countdown

My cars been in the shop for 3 weeks now, a boat usually takes 6 weeks to 8 weeks to arrive, I assume I will have it at most in a month?

Keep in mind JDM headlights are different than the Monogram, RS, etc headlights as they're for a RHD car and the cutoff will be wrong.

This may be why you're waiting so long. Keep in mind if you're ordering from Toyota, if they're ANYWHERE in the US they'll ship them to that specific dealer, it's not a regional thing.

It depends if they put your part on the boat. Not sure but I think @Pish been waiting for a while for his headlight.

it seems kinda strange, its been 20 days since its been in the shop. I recently got into a car accident, and i took it in for repair. I been there before, its good quality work, and they take off my deducible. So i asked them today and they said that its still in repair because they haven't received the headlights yet because its on backorder. I am in nor cal, the car is around South SF, I just wanna ask if that's normal or not. I asked for jdm headlights. They suggest that I dont get after market parts and that i dont get it done(blackout) because it might lead to leaks and whatnot. I said ok, you take care of it for me. I have about 9 days before my insurance stop covering my rental car. so should I just ask them to get regular headlights?

I know im not a good talker, so in other words,
1. is it normal or real that its really in backorder? either of the headlights assuming they get it from scion.
2. should i just roll with regular non-mono/ser10/rs1.0/jdm headlights and call it a day? unless thats in backorder too.

thanks for taking your time to read it and replying me.

Hey there !

In July someone spun into my car while driving into SF which damaged the front end of my car .

Definitely normal for your body shop to say that the parts are on back order , I had to wait about some time since they were on back order as well during the time of my accident .

I was lucky enough that only a couple of tabs broke on my original headlight so I was able pick up my car and just swing by when I had time to get it installed when it arrived (which I finally did and it is already November ...) .

Have they given you an estimated date on when they will arrive ?

If it is only a week or so after your insurance ends your rental policy I would just continue renting a car and pay if you are able to get the upgrade since those lights are not cheap at all .

Or if you can get hold of some base headlights , maybe ask your body shop to install them for the mean time and switch them out later when they come ?

Probably the best thing is to see how your body shop works since they are all different .

When my body shop told me the headlight was on back order , they asked me if I wanted a pair of the base model or BRZ lights instead since they were much easier to obtain .

Hopefully things work out !

I actually got my headlight after a month but I haven't had the time to get it installed ...

Ya body shop definition of "soon" is not always what we would hope it is though.
