Help to decide which CAI to buy in these days...

Hi,

I'm new to this and I know there's a lot of topics about CAI right now, but... I'm planning to buy a CAI to my FR-S and I need help and/or advices in which is best option right now of the following intakes to buy. I will do a short explain why I'm looking forward for each of the followig intakes:

1) K&N 69 Series Typhoon Intake - I really like the 6 hp 5 tq at second gear and it sounds pretty.

2) AEM Tuned Intake - I've been reading this is one of the best options because it comes with its tune and (i don't know if this is real) it makes 10 hp because of that.

3) Mishimoto Intake - I like how it looks, sounds and what Mishimoto offers, but I haven't seen reviews and videos of it and i don't know if it really makes the 10 hp and 8 tq and if is good.

4) Grimmspeed Intake - Like the sound, look and 6 hp and 7 tq but it needs a tune so... If it is good please someone tell me more about this CAI.

Any advice and help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance. :w00t:

GrimmSpeed and Mishimoto have threads detailing the development of their intakes. They are a good place to start. The Skunk2 seems to be getting ok results when tuned too.

I have the GrimmSpeed one and I am very happy with it so far.

The GrimmSpeed Intake it is slow at low rpm like others Intake or not? Have better avg with the mpg? I want to know more details about the CAI. Thanks Turdinator!

What about the perrin cai's? The larger one specifically. II was looking into one of those because my plans for fi have been put on hold for a while. Looking to tune with oft. Anyone running either one?

You really think you'll feel 7-8 HP at the very top end? Or the difference between 5/6 HP & 7-8 HP? Your ears will hear a different sound, tell your brain to tell your butt that the car is "faster".... Just buy the cheapest one and enjoy the noise....

There will be a specific tune for the GrimmSpeed CAI from the OFT guys. That is the cold air intake I will be getting since i already own the OFT:burnrubber:

For the record, the OFT tuned thread can be a little confusing. That is simply the intake's gains from being tuned, not over stock. We went to the dyno a month ago to test our final production intake, and made 9.3whp with NO TUNE.

The dyno posted in the OFT thread that shows gains of about 6hp and 7tq ON TOP of the gains from the intake. Without a baseline or the tune we can't for sure say that these are additive, but there is a potential for a total gain of about 15hp with intake and tune.

Again, tune is not required!

Is there going to be a stage 2 OFT tune available?

The only thing that will have changed is the MAF scale, so you can copy it to any tune you like.

I have the TRD intake and I didn't really feel much difference except my mpg went up. If I'm not mistaken Dsport did a good review of a lot of intakes. If I remember correctly a simple drop in filter performed better than any intakes they tested. And the drop in filter is 10X cheaper.

Mishimoto's intake is a great place to start, there's the development thread of course, but also great information from their videos too:

This is why I've had only drop in filters for the last year. That Grimmspeed dyno and the group buy is compelling me to reconsider however...

the grimmspeed does look really nice and seems to be pretty popular, and getting oft support would sway my decision some. how aggressive is the sound difference?
