Anyone here speedball? (paintball)

Anybody here paintball? After 5 years of absence I'm planning to get back into it. A friend let me use his geo 2.1 and it was a nice gun, and he said he would sell it to me for fairly cheap but is it worth buying an old super gun or just buying a new mid range gun? I've liked spools just because of the ease of maintenance, but I would like a bit longer air efficiency. I was looking at the jt impulse and macdev drone xd, and eteks just to see. The mini and axe seem to bit too small for my hands and seem uncomfy. I could wait for the new etek 5, but I don't really want to constantly borrow my friends marker.

Wow, my and my roommate have actually been thinking the same thing. Dusted off my gear and it still shoots perfectly. Our team started in speedball amateur leagues and worked to semi before we all moved off for college. I've been out for about as long as you, so I wouldn't be much help in picking a new marker. But assuming their still around, I can say good things for the Smart Parts Ion/Shocker or WGP Karnivor. They tore teams up back in the day and probably still would without breaking the bank.

If you are new to competitive speedball then there are some other gear bits to consider that can be arguably more important than your marker. And if you already have plenty of speedball experience then feel free to completely disregard this next bit haha. Make sure you get: a zero-fog mask with wide field of view, a hopper that can feed at least 25 bps without being too bulky, a small CF air tank (45/4500), short barrel with a tight spin, and the slipperiest pants you can find.

Also, unless you were gifted with incredible twitch speed from god, I doubt you'll ever need a marker than can shoot any faster than 22bps. I'm absolutely positive that exceptional older markers will still run with whatever the big boys are playing with now, simply because even back in the day, all high end markers could outperform their operators. I'd probably go with the GEO, it was a damned nice marker and had plenty of custom options. You won't have to worry about the spool valve for speedball anyway, it's not like you'll ever run a tank dry in-game, and afterward just air it back up with your scuba tank.

I better end this before this post completely gets away from me. I guess I just really miss paintball

Yea my gears still good except for a few holes in my pants but I can always buy new ones. My tank has been expired ever since I stopped playing, and idk where my old hopper is. I may just buy the geo since he's giving me a fair deal. Felt good to play again lol.

Special_K 11-10-2014 07:48 PM

You can still get your tank hydrotested even if it has expired. The geo was sick back in the day, the snap back and forward air-up is badass... After taking my marker out recently I realized walking the trigger isn't like riding a bike haha. I couldn't even break 17bps

bkblitzed 11-10-2014 07:52 PM

Yea I just need to find a place to hydrotest. Closest one is about an hour or two away I think.

No scuba shop nearby?

bkblitzed 11-10-2014 08:22 PM

There is but they don't do paintball tanks. Already tried asking

I used to play, I played a few years in the NPPL and XPSL here on the west coast. Havent played in a while. If I was you I'd get a few year old professional level tournament gun, You should be able to get like an ego 8 or 9 for super cheap these days.

I sold most of my guns, but I still have my Angels, which work flawlessly and mow faces to this day. If you can find a G7 or G7 fly or something you should be able to get one for next to nothing. Check out pbnation.com and cruise the classifieds

DAFUQ?!?! What team did you play for / who are you?!

Special_K 11-11-2014 12:14 PM

When I left paintball my newest marker was the Dye DMC now apparently Dye is up to the DM14. That thing better take you out on the town and cook a full breakfast in the morning, because I can't see another reason to pick a new marker over an old one. haha

bkblitzed 11-11-2014 01:50 PM

Yea I just registered for pbnation. Kinda funny because I was on techpb long before they even made the forum, and how the two sites didn't like each other.

haha don't get too excited, I played for a divisional team. Played against the big boys in practices pretty often (some Dynasty, XSV, Infamous players frequented our practice fields) but never made it to that level myself.

I sold my Ironmen DM6, ego 8 and CCM series 5 pump when I stopped playing, I still have my Angels because they were team sponsor guns and have sentimental value. I dont think I'll ever let them go.

Jesus man don't be doing that to me, I just about pissed myself! I used to follow NPPL shamelessly haha... Right on you still have some gear too. I sold off all of mine to pay for my Integra back in the day, except for my ION. It wasn't worth much compared to the rest, but I just couldn't let it go (I get the same feeling about my BRZ lol).

Lucky you got Angels for sponsor markers, after we finally got picked up from winning our first tourney our sponsors hooked us up with some mid range WGP Autocockers. I hated those things, if you didn't get a full trigger pull they would short stroke and you had to manually cycle them. Called em Autolockers haha.
