Toyota press conference at the Paris Motor Show - FT-86 Arriving Mid-2012

After searching the internet i found a quote from the president of Toyota Motor Europe at his conference at the auto show. at the end of the conference he had this to say about the FT86;

Quote:

Finally, I am really excited to share more details of our next sports car. Over the years, Toyota has created a rich heritage of exciting sports models. Think of the Celica, the MR2 and the Supra. The FT-86 Concept you can see here today anticipates what you’ll get from the next generation of Toyota sports cars. With a front engine and rear-wheel drive configuration, the FT-86 is extremely light, with a low centre of gravity. It delivers an instant and precise response to even the slightest input from the accelerator and steering.
It reflects our President’s passion for racing and delivers his ambition of making driving fun and exciting. So when the production model arrives mid-2012, it will show that, at Toyota, PASSION IS BACK – DEFINITELY BACK - driving our product planning and development.

Same crap. Only thing new is the date being pushed back. This pretty much means we're not going to see a finished model until November of 2011. They can wave goodbye to a bunch of customers

good bye to me as a customer.. im gettign a S15 or s2k.. NOTHING is worth that long of a wait..

erm... we just found out about this car OFFICIALLY in December. Hasn't even felt that long looking back. It'll be here in a years time. Japan & the US will likely get it sooner. 70NYD.. well, yeah, you just might have to buy an S15 or S2K. lol.

My guess is the car will debut in TMS, and hit the show room in at most end of Q1 or early Q2 of 2012. It's simple!!! Lexus IS, FT-86, Corolla, probably Lexus SC concept will be shown all in 1 year.

Finally I have time to post of comment here.

Anyways, they said IN Paris (Europe), they gonna release FT86. It could be just in Euro Mid 2012, Japan and other place might be end of 2011... Never know

btw, I have been reading several car mag here in Japan, but it is pretty much same old BS stuff. Nothing new

Australia tends to get their stuff a few years after. Some not all.. If it comes in 2012 it's fine, il still buy it, just sell the current car lol.. Just won't buy it straight up

It still seems as though they are on track time-wise. They said earlier that the car will be released Nov 2011. That puts it at a sale date of early 2012. Or if you interpret it as Toyota will release the car in Nov 2011, they only pushed it back a few months. Gives you some time to save up a bit more money for mods!

i dont really care about the time line as long as we get it state side that will be good for me. if they release this 2012 model i wont even get it till 2013 model. main focus next year is finish my AE86 & more track day.

I don't only want Toyota to bring a fun-to-drive car, I also want a high quality interior. If it's s.th like crappy Gen coupe, no thanks. 6 months delay for them to make sure everything is perfect for what they will charge is reasonable, but I believe their new models have improved both quality on exterior and interior already. Toyota now is not the one we know 5 or 6 years ago, they now want to make sure they won't fall into problems again.

my 1st post here was such cus i was relatively pissed of that 1st official news was bad in a way (since the date has been pushed back) but thinking about it and reading what all you ppl have to say has made me realise, a little longer... who cares.. its gonna be finished better, its gonna look better, its gonna hopefully drive better (something new might be implemented who knows :p)
as long as it comes to australia i will be happy. i wont buy the 1st version, as the second one might be better, might have FI, might have some upgrades u know.. IF NOT however, i will buy a 1st version 2nd hand then and by that time (2-3 years from now?) there will be pleanty of upgrades out already, most probs bolt ons, so yeah
TOYOTA YOU BETTER TAKE THE TIME TO GET IT RIGHT

This IF it comes to Australia.

You know what I dot care if it does come with the interior from 5 yrs ago I just want it to drive well and if it does I won't mind or pay attention one little bit to it I'll just drive it an be happy. Although if the interior is upto date and better than current toyotas there will be less arguments from the missus
