Success- the winning ways from FT-86 experts

Nameless, Delicious, Racer-X, 86 Speed Factory, Essex, and CSG Mike- Thank you!
We all want the same thing; to win. My Uncle and I have been competing here in Taiwan with our Automatic N/A 86 this past year and have had great results, entering 4 races and winning all of them. Often times beating forced induction cars and finishing very close to top of the charts for all divisions. Nameless Exhaust experts have created something very special in their long-runner equal length headers and complete race exhaust system. The torque generated from an originally flat curve has allowed us to literally wave goodbye to competitors on corner exit. Matched beautifully with Delicious Stage 2 tune, AirAid intake and Crawford intake blocks, the car now feels as if it has multiple V-TECH cams. 3500, 4500 and 5500RPM hit like stages from an Apollo rocket, launching you to the back of the seat while surging forward at an incredible rate. All of this power is wonderful, but only because of the chassis set-up and support from the likes of Racer-X, Essex and 86 SpeedFactory. With the easy to adjust camber and caster settings both front and rear with Racer-X's control arms, the changing temperatures on tire read-outs allow us to optimize tire usage nearly on-the-fly. The Essex team has done an amazing job as well. Shipping (often in panic situations) all of our brake components and helping us to create the most stable stopping feel I've ever experienced. Not knowing how good this was until I started driving other competitors cars, I now realize their very specific added value. These guys get brakes! 86 Speed factory has been there all along in the background from the very beginning. Supplying (in timely fashion) all of our sway bars, links chassis bushings and other bits. Making sure the chassis can withstand all the acceleration and negative acceleration currently being generated. Lastly CSG Mike- Who even though we've never met has always answered my racing questions. Whether it be on driving, chassis balance or component optimization, Mike provides honest answers. As a racer, I'm often skeptical of advice from other drivers; the fact that Mike gives these answers with no hint of ego or contempt...and they work..., tells me that he's probably a pretty amazing driver and has confidence in his own ability. Here in Taiwan, we're proud to help spread the word of all these great partners in the states. Competitors now look to us for performance gains and we're pleased to be able to provide them with Delicious tunes and Racer-X chassis components. We will be heading to Tsukuba circuit- A.K.A. The Griffon's backyard- in a few weeks time to see if we can help others break the 1:00 mark with these parts. Thanks again to all and I'll work to update more frequently. I'm so jealous you're going to Tsukuba... pray to the weather gods!

Looks really hooked up. What about cooling?!!!
|
Great Post ! The vendor support in this community is amazing.

No tranny cooler yet which causes some issues in July. Doing research to see which product will give us the best results. |
I don't think any additional cooling should be necessary while naturally aspirated.
Due to the design of the OEM radiator, I much prefer using powerful fans over replacing the radiator, particularly when you start stacking cores like we do, and the flow drops. In our case, we have FMIC, 2x Setrab coolers, AC condenser, and then Radiator. |
Could you give us a breakdown of your mods? :)
|
Yeah there's no reason to replace the radiator na. If anything it will hurt airflow exactly as mike said.

Your atf is definitely cooked.

B&M makes some great ATF coolers that are small and cool ridiculously well. I had one of their smallest units on my last car and the cooling was worth ~50F. Not sure how available they are in Taiwan though. |
Awesome!!! Keep it up.
|
Or PWR from Australia. You need about 4m of hose to mount it at the front. 3m is really, really pushing it.
Look at this thread for some awesome data on ATF temps and pressures. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61498 Also, I wouldn't say your winning isn't completely from bolt on mods but mostly due to driving better than everyone else. |

It's the same reason Prego makes 50 flavors of tomato sauce- no single flavor tastes the best to everyone. All of these companies listed know more about how to make your car perform better then we do. We've talked with all of them, explained what we're looking for in terms of results and they've all delivered. As far as the tranny goes- we flush the fluid after each race. Amazingly the tranny fluid is often pink but the gear oil is cooked....badly. We're hesitant to put on a cooler with 3-4m of lines, for no other reason then it just doesn't seem as efficient as it could be. Jury is out on the radiator. Lots of folks stick with the OEM and have no issues. The reason we changed was just racing superstition- race cars have bigger radiators...right? |

To follow-up from the season ender 3 weeks ago.
Our team entered 2 cars for 4 events: results were 1st, 1st, 1st, 4th. Great feeling going into the off-season with these kinds of results. Our daily driver swept the series time attack and took the inaugural GP-1 win as well. No videos posted yet, but hope to soon. All components worked flawlessly and would also like to say special thanks to Speedfactory for getting us the Tanabe support brace before the weekend. (It was ordered Monday and arrived Thursday in Taiwan) We'll keep you posted of the mods this off season and really appreciate all the support from the board. Pics are of the team cars during practice...and yes, we passed the 911... Happy winter tuning! |
