Exhaust Swap Debate!

So i have come to realize i enoy the quiet exhaust now :P This buddy Club Spec ii Exhaust has been great to annoy and piss off and make people go wow and stare in awe for long enough.... Realized this after hearing what it sounds like driving 30 miles to work with stock catback on :P

So i am thinking 1 of these 2 Catbacks to replace it.
HS12SSTG3T Invidia q300 with rolled Ti or Tanabe Medalion Exhaust - Concept G T80166R

I fear the Tanabe may be to loud but the invidia may be just right.

The Buddy Club Race headers are Here to stay BTW :P the invidia Resonated pipe might stay depending on how loud whichever sounds with it.

What ya all think?

From what I've seen the top 3 quietest would be the Invidia Q300, TRD CBE, and Perrin Resonated. That's just what I've seen....

however, I say go for gold and get louder!

Q300. It's quiet.

If you want quiet then get the Invidia Q300. It's very quiet for daily driving, but loud enough when you get on it. My only gripe with the Q300 is that it sounds very hollow and tinny at higher RPMs when paired with a UEL header, almost like there's no bass in the exhaust if that makes sense. At low RPMs it sounds great though.

But that's with a UEL header. I'm sure it'll sound great on the EL header, but I've never heard it on an EL header so I can't speak from experience.

Depends on where you want your "gains" and how the header is made

Q300 SO QUIET!!!!! I had non-resonated, catless front pipe with the q300 and still very quiet. Slightly noticeable but you have to really look for the sound to hear it. That's why I switched to the EVO3 hahah

On the plus side, the q300 TI version looks amazing on the car! That's they only thing I miss is the TI tips.

I daily my Tanabe & its fairly quiet. I did a review a while back, its somewhere in this forum section. I think its the perfect amount of noise levels & zero drone.

I'm of course the minority because many people like the dual exit look, I prefer the single exit. Also one thing to note that people don't realize is that the Q300 is heavier than the stock exhaust (could be wrong, referencing from memory). Tanabe is much lighter than stock, food for thought lol.

Perrin Resonated when paired with uncatted UEL (OFH) is not as quiet as some people have said. I have this set up right now when I fold my seats down, its noticeably louder. There's drone when I step on it very loudly.

With my backseats up its much better.

My exhaust setup is:

- JDL UEL uncatted coated header
- JDL OP
- Magnaflow catted/resonated FP
- Perrin resonated CBE

It's quieter than I was expecting. It's mellow when you want it to be, but quickly gets aggressive when you step on it.

As a reference point, it's barely louder and actually less raspy than when I was stock with just Perrin non-resonated CBE. Even my wife who always thought the old setup was too loud admits it's not noticeably louder.

Pick your exhaust components carefully as sound levels quickly ramp up in these cars as you open up the exhaust.

THIS. The Perrin isn't all that quiet. I ran it with stock header and OFH and it's pretty loud (with over pipe and catless front pipe). I have a 200 mile round trip I do once a week at 75mph 3300 rpm's... the perrin droned. I then Switched to the P&L catback, with a catted front pipe. Better, but still drones. I'm now on the stock catback w/JDM tips. Still have OFH, P&L over pipe, & P&L catted front pipe. Very quiet, but a little tinny on the top end, and cold start sounds like a million hamsters farting.

I actually noticed a better low to mid range when I put the stock catback back on. I'm going to guess this is due to the greater back pressure. I do like it. I'm toying with the idea of putting a Dynomax VT muffler in. Great muffler for power but still keeping the noise down apparently. Or maybe a longer/better resonator in the oem midpipe to kill the slight rasp.
