Where's the best Mexican food in Portland?

Who makes the best enchiladas in town?

...like New Mexican style stacked with tons of red chile & cheese. Anyone do that here?

Ammunition 11-08-2014 09:28 PM

I can't speak from experience, but I've been meaning to check out La Cocina in NE Portland - http://www.yelp.com/biz/la-cocina-restaurant-portland

I've heard a lot of good things about it, and I wanted try it out yesterday for dinner, but I didn't get off of work until right before they were closing.

I'll probably try to get over there sometime this week, or you could try it and let me know how it is!

Ultramaroon 11-09-2014 12:47 AM

You're on. last one to try it is a coņo.

Anyone else?

Don Pedro's. Or the taco truck at cartlandia

stockysnail 11-09-2014 04:24 AM

Food carts have some of the best. Por Que No was pretty good, not sure about it being the best though as I've only been once. Iron Horse is pretty good as well, but since I'm allergic to onions my Mexican choices are limited since places usually premix onions with their veggies, 'cause they be lazy!

Wow, can't imagine being allergic to onions. I eat them on practically everything. I'm allergic to honey, which is also a bummer.

Went to Iron Horse right after I posted. Should have copied my wife because I ended up with a case of food envy. We'll go back for sure.

ilpad 11-10-2014 12:43 AM

The best mex food in the area can be found in the old town area of hillsboro. Its called Amelia's.

Hillsboro and Cornelius have a very high hispanic population and subsequently features many amazing and yet very cheap mexican restaurants. Our poplulation out here is mostly from Michoacan and therefore you'll get mainly those type of dishes.

Its worth the trip west.

wrohdejr 11-10-2014 02:25 PM

The mexican food car on 190th and stark in the chinease restaurant parking lot!! So good!!

wrohdejr 11-10-2014 02:26 PM

This I wouldn't doubt.

Ragua007 11-10-2014 03:29 PM

Pepino's is my favorite but Por Que No is really good too.

BRZPDX 11-10-2014 09:13 PM

I like Pepino's too. Its pretty much a mexican food truck indoors.

My steak taco's are bomb as well:
Marinated flank steak
onion/cilantro chopped up
Guac
small tortilla, fried in the steak fat.

We need to do a pot luck at Darren's, who can beat my meat?

I went to La Cocina tonight for dinner, and it was really good! I tried the chicken and veggie enchilada with the mole sauce, and it was delicious. The white peach, and blood orange margarita were also yummy! :D

Sonofabitch! I was there for lunch but dove into my clutch DIY as soon as I got home. You have the win, sir!

I had the chicken enchilada with the red sauce. I agree it was pretty tasty! Portion size was dead on and I liked what they did with the chips and black beans for the appetizer.

It was so windy the doors kept blowing open.

Next stop, Don Pedro's.

Andrew025 11-12-2014 01:22 AM

I've been eating too many burritos from the place right by my house.
If you're near/going through North Plains, stop by King Torta.
