MTEC Shifter Springs - Long Term Impressions?
For those of you that have had this mod for quite a while, do you feel it still makes a difference? Also, please list your other tranny mods. ie.) bushings, short shifters, synthetic fluids, etc...
|
I still feel a crisp firmness to the shifter that I originally got. It was one of the first mods I did. I may be slightly biased since now the feel is muddled by my trans bushing/mount, shifter mount, diff mount, subframe mount, motor mounts haha. I can't definitively attribute it to the shift springs but most other transmission feels sloppy to me now. It does still let me return to center a lot more confidently so with that yes I still thing it was worth doing.

Love mine. I have the springs, a Kartboy shifter, Kartboy trans mount stiffener, Perrin rear shifter bushing, and Pentosin fluid. Feels like a well oiled rifle bolt. Definitely recommend!

X2 love mine can't wait to put same setup in our second car

If you're on the fence whether or not to install the springs, I say do it. You'll immediately notice the difference from the stock springs and the Mtec Springs. With my current set up of the KartBoy Short Shifter, Kartboy Shifter bushing, and the Mtec Shift Springs, shifting is stupid easy and effortless (relatively). I think combined with the Mtec Springs combined with a Short Shifter, daily driving the 86 will be even more easy than it already is.

I still like mine. Still very positive gear engagement/disengagement, and easy to find neutral. They also helped with 4th to 5th gear selection, as it was an awkward transition for me when the car was new. I also have the whiteline transmission bushing and perrin rear shifter bushing. All made the shifter much, much better. It is a bit notchy, but notchy is not bad if not accompanied by vague shifting. The shifter is direct, not vague in the least, and has very positive engagement.

Love mine. Very big difference even in a stock car with just the springs. No regrets here

love mine as well. well worth the money!

I have the Billet Pro short shifter and the Perrin shifter bushing and when I installed the springs I honestly felt no difference. Maybe because I had a couple other mods on for the same thing.

Anyone tried these with the TRD quick shifter? The shifter is very stiff with this kit and takes a bit more effort to get into gear, so was wondering if by increasing center spring force, might make the 4-5 easier. Very tough to do quickly with the TRD kit
|
I would think it would make it more difficult since the springs will hold the shifter centered with more spring pressure. I would think that would make it harder to push the shift off the centerline.
|
Better question is....who has the mtec clutch spring? For the low price maybe I'll just try it out without any feedback from other users
Definitely get the shift springs though. |

I never had trouble with 4-5 with the stock shifter, or with the TRD QS, or with the MTEC springs. But having both of them has made 5-4 even easier. |
