2014 Navigation Maps SD Copy

I have a '13 model BRZ and I'm fed up with the outdated 2011 navi map. I live in Northern Virginia and there are tons of new roads and shopping centers that were built over the last few years. Is it possible to copy the SD memory card of a 2014 BRZ?

Don't think so, it's encrypted or somesuch.

There's a thread on here, discussing making a backup, and then cloning it...no one had a new version of the maps to test though.

My 14 brz came with the 2011 maps, maybe the dealer can put the new ones on?

Thanks for the link!

But wow... $184.99 for an update?

ScoobsMcGee 11-07-2014 08:20 PM

Sheesh. I didn't follow the process far enough to see the cost. Looking at it now, at least the Subaru Nav is $50 less than the Kenwood update?

WOW you could go buy a better working garmin for $100. That's roughly half the price of a superior pioneer unit.

Where are you guys mounting these? I easily end up taking away a quarter of my windshield view with anything mounted to the dash.

I'm pretty sure there's a guide and a torrent floating around somewhere on how to do it, I used to get updates for my garmin units by pirating off the maps and simply flashing them over......

When I bought my car I called Subaru Customer Assistance and asked about a map upgrade. They told me that as a valued customer they would refund the cost of the first upgrade. I had to buy the update from that site and forward the reciept to them. Sure enough I got a check in the mail the following week.

^^ Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna try this!

Just an update -

I called Subaru of America and politely stated my case. To my surprise, the customer service representative was more than willing to listen and help, and offered me a full refund on the price of an SD update. Turns out, it is $149.99 if you don't need a new SD card. SOA customer service really won me over. We'll see how long it takes for the refund to come in, but so far, I couldn't ask for more. (maybe a new unit ;P)

I might need to give this a shot...
