Track Days: HPDE and AutoX

Since we have our own subforum now, here's a list of the upcoming track days. This post should look familiar to some... ;)

Please feel free to add events that you know of in here. There is no prior experience necessary for any of these events. Bring yourself, your car and a helmet if you have one (there are usually loaners available) and you can get an instructor at the track.

NOVEMBER HPDE Track Days

8th Saturday - Porsche Club of America (AZ86 invitation with Ferrari, BMW and Audi clubs. Contact @Campo or email kkavanaghnyc at gmail dot com) - Wild Horse Pass West - $150

15th Saturday - Pro Autosports - Arizona Motorsports Park - $150

22nd-23rd Saturday and Sunday - Speed Ventures - Chuckwalla Valley Raceway - $180 per day

28th-30th Friday, Saturday and Sunday - Pro Autosports - Wild Horse Pass East - I don't have pricing for this yet since it's the whole Thanksgiving weekend including Friday. My guess would be $350 for all three days, $250 for two and $150 for one.

DECEMBER HPDE Track Days

13th Saturday - Pro Autosports - Wild Horse Pass West - I don't have pricing, but probably $150

I encourage everyone to do a track or AutoX day, at least one time! I tried it out myself for the "learning experience" and was insta-hooked on it.

marc615243 11-05-2014 11:27 PM

December 21st - Autocross @ Arizona Motorsports Park

AMP requires a sound test so if your car is really loud I wouldn't bother going.

Registration Fee SCCA Members: $20 Pre-Registration, $30 at Event

Registration Fee Non-Members: $30 Pre-Registration, $35 at Event

Last event of the fall series. It's great fun and I have learned how to drive my car so much better since I started doing this. The local group is a fantastic bunch. If you want to just go to observe/ride along with someone its free. I highly recommend it.

If anyone needs any details or help with anything just ask.

No I wasn't. I worked today so I was at no events. :(

alexand3r 01-05-2015 04:13 PM

Anymore track days coming up?

Juggles 01-05-2015 04:15 PM

Theres a NASA Az event this weekend I believe.

alexand3r 01-05-2015 04:18 PM

Nice! Anyone else going? I'm a first-timer...

EDIT: Nevermind, looks like HPDE1 is full.

Juggles 01-05-2015 06:42 PM

You should still go out. Its super fun to check out the event, free, and you will meet cool people as well!

I would offer to meet up there, but shall be hitting the slopes in Telluride!

Campo 01-06-2015 01:25 AM

I'll post up the schedules soon. Sorry, I been slacking over the holiday.

And definitely go check it out even if you don't drive this time. It's an awesome crowd and you might get someone to take you for a ride. :)

If you need help with your car classifications and what not just let me know what mods you have and I will tell you where you are. This car stock is in C-Street.

Just say so if you get lost on any part of the registration.

Campo 01-06-2015 06:45 PM

Here's a quick list without prices. I'll get all the pricing added as soon as I can.

Any of you guys have a good alignment shop you would recommend? I am posting here because I recently did some suspension work and need an alignment for track purpose. Basically looking for a good shop that will take care of my car and do the job to my specifications.

I used these guys for my last alignment and really liked them. They do everything manually and to your spec, no lasers that could be out of whack. Also, they use pull-up racks, no ramps - which is awesome for us that are lowered.

EDIT: So the guys at Jack's are still great, but I won't be going to them anymore. Go see Alan (AZFA20) if you need an alignment. He does amazing work at a very fair price, who else can get a PERFECT 50% crossweight?

Sorry, meant to update this earlier....

$150 for the PCA event. Beginners welcome. Message me for registration details if you'd like in.

I don't think I'll be at this one - I need to install a tranny and oil cooler before my next outing. :/

That doesn't mean you can't run your car out there without coolers, it's just that I run E85, have a sort of aggressive tune, and I drive like an asshole. :D

Many on here would also recommend Alan @AZFA20 he also does it by hand and is an FRS/BRZ enthusiast. He's done lots of stuff on many of our cars.

What the hell did you do to the trans? See, this is why we can't have nice things.

EDIT: or do you mean you're installing a big, bearded man in a dress in the vehicle?

Yes, I need the big, bearded man in a dress as motivation to keep going faster... :burnrubber:

With the auto trans on the track it can't dissipate heat fast enough between sessions so I need an auxiliary cooler to protect her and keep the shifts nice and tight. Remember I run flappy paddles. :D

I guess I didn't realize this was an issue. Never thought about it since I've only driven stick the last 15 years. What does the MT do that an AT can't for heat dissipation?

rather than jack a thread, maybe I should :search:

Campo 01-20-2015 03:12 PM

In an auto the fluid is a 'traction device' inside the torque converter so it gets waaaaay hotter than just being a lubricant between gears. And as viscosity changes, so does the fluid pressure, and shift points move based on pressure.

This is my first auto and I've been driving since 1984 - I've had to learn a lot!

The best illustration I've ever seen:

I do all forms of track prep, repairs, alignments, corner balancing, you name it I can do it. No job too small or too large. All my lifts are setup for very low cars.

Thanks to everyone who recommends my services, greatly appreciated!

Folks, go see this guy, he knows his stuff.

After an alignment and corner balance, my car has never felt better and it is immediately noticeable. Perfect 50% Crossweight? No problem...

Please note that a Vortech SC and Mishimoto OC will add weight to the extreme front.

+1 for the guys at Jack's. Went to them today and they did everything just how I wanted it.

I'm registered already.

Juggles 02-20-2015 12:40 PM

I will be signing up for HPDE3 on the March 7th/8th NASA track day.

Anyone else planning on attending?

Juggles 02-23-2015 06:02 PM

Now signed up for the upcoming 3/7-3/8 NASAAZ Track day.

Come on out guys!

Juggles 03-05-2015 10:56 AM

Nobody else coming to play at the track this weekend? /sadFace

Campo 03-05-2015 10:58 AM

I'm wish! I'm in desperate need of oil and transmission coolers.

Somebody better go out! :)

Fuckin Tapatalk

Campo 03-11-2015 09:08 PM

How was WHP @Juggles?! Wish we could have been there.

Tapatalk - because smoke signals would be too easy.

Juggles 03-12-2015 04:21 PM

It was great as usual. It had been a minute since I was last on the track so my lap times weren't as solid as I wish they had been, but in due time.

It's a completely new game tracking with the power I now have. Seriously had to learn how to drive again. I do enjoy gaining ground on the straight aways tho. The only rides out there that pulled away on the straights were the couple GT-R

Also was my first full weekend out in the HPDE3 group. These guys are bad ass drivers. Being able to pass on turns with confidence is an amazing experience. My favorite part was going into the Carousel and watching a bunch of stacked cars take 3-4 different lines through it side-by-side.

I need a dedicated track car.

Juggles 04-28-2015 12:41 PM

Im thinking about doing the half/early track day in June @ WHP West.... anyone else?

Still doing lots of logging and keeping an eye on oil temps... even with an intercooler and oil cooler I started getting a bit too hot towards the end of the session (120C max) ... gonna have to figure something out

Hi I'm new
Anyway, are there any solo events held regularly on the west side of Phoenix metro? Surely there must be smaller clubs that organize weekly or monthly autocross events?

Thanks
