Question for those who have changed the reverse lockout
I know from the other threads that its a pain to get the pin out of the factory lockout. I went to give it a shot today with a small allen key and I'm able to slide it right through. I can see right through the lockout and I dont see anything in there. There's definitely something in there holding it because I removed all the knob and boot and the lockout doesn't come off. Is the pin a hollow tube or is something up with my lockout?

try using a slightly bigger allen key, i havent changed mine out yet so i cant confirm if its a hollow pin or not

I just looked at my OEM pin, and it is in fact hollow.
You need a punch that is wide enough to hit the edges of the pin and you will need to hammer it out. Helpful hint, put it in reverse when you do this so that when you put the replacement in the bolt on the cable is in the correct position. |
Thanks guys. Gonna give it another shot when I have some more free time.

You also don't need to hammer it so hard that it flies out... I hammered slowly til it was poking out and used needle nose pliers to finish it off.

I was able to get this out first shot (not first hammer blow - first attempt at doing the mod) with a hammer and this from home depot:
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Dasco-Pro...e-34/100507476 I used the middle one 3/32 - put it in third and hammered it out by holding the stick solid and using medium force. You can feel it start to slip. This is the problem with using finishing nails etc - the pin on the inside is hollow and you will make it flare. It's worth the 8 bucks to get this tool instead of breaking stuff off and battling the pin. Once you pop it through - LEAVE IT THERE until you get the stick into reverse.
