Totaled or Not

Yesterday, I was turning left and I accidently went a little bit into the incomming lane. A car was comming towards me and I overcompensated b/c these lanes were very narrow. Ended up in a 7 ft ditch. And I dont know what will happen to my frs. Any ideas?

By the way, the left back tire was kind of caved in. Would that be structural damage?

I'm pretty sure if the airbags deploy, the car is totaled.

Really? I thought they might give it some leeway since it only has like 7000 miles on it

Not necessarily but is very often one of the factors if the car is boarder line.

In MD its 75% of current value. VA could be a little higher. I know we have one of the lower total loss thresholds in MD

fitcious 11-02-2014 03:43 PM

nah, i don't think that's total. but you should fight for it to be

Do you want it to be Totaled?

nah man, I really love this car. It would kill me to see it totaled.

None of the pictures show significant structural damage imo (except maybe the rockers).

In my opinion it will come down to whether or not you managed to tweak the suspension and drivetrain, you mention the wheel is caved in, if that goes along with a tweaked axle, borked differential, trashed strut + whatever else holds the wheel in place the dollars rack up.

Doesn't matter what we think, it matters what your insurance thinks.

I think it is cosmetic but the airbags cost a small fortune.

depends on your insurance company. Likely if it's over 75% of value, it's total loss. Some companies will total it at less than that. eyeballing it, it looks to be easily over 10k of damage, so high chance of total loss.

Be glad it's total loss, you'll get more than your car is worth. =)

Glad you're ok. You can always replace the car. Not so glad about your next insurance premium.

The airbags only deploy on hard impacts —e.g. the car could roll and not deploy airbags, ask me how I know :D—, and I don't see *that much* exterior damage, so I'm guessing the suspension parts and subframe took the most beating. So it's hard to tell without looking under the car.
