TPMS Registration Issues

I installed my new snow tires last night which have the VDO redi sensor in them. However, when I use Techstream to try to program the new sensor ID's into the car, I am running into two issues.

The first issue is that I keep getting the error that the system is stuck in initilization mode and I need to connect the TC to the GC (or something like that, I have the documentation at home) for 30 seconds. I've tried doing that and I still get that error. So, for this, I've connected to the car via techstream, read the correct/current/oem ID #'s and done a health check, everything is fine. I then close techstream, leave the key in the on position, unplug the cable and then using a paper clip, connect/short, the two correct pins on the obd2 port on the car for the the 30 seconds. I then plug the cable back in and reconnect to the car. At which time it gives me that error when I try to program the id #'s. I am going to try to use a bigger all metal paper clip.

The second issue I am having is that the OEM sensors in my factory/summer wheels have 7-digit id #'s and the VDO sensor's have 8 digit id's. When I try to enter the 8 digit code using techstream, it will only allow me to enter 7 digits. Is this normal? How am I supposed to enter the sensor id's then? Just an FYI, all of the VDO sensor id's start with a 1.

Any help with getting this fixed would be greatly appreciated. Also, when I'm trying to connect/register the sensors, do I need to let any air out of the tires first?

Have you validated that the sensors are compatible with the car?

They are the VDO Redi-sensor SE10003 model which is listed as being the correct one for the FR-S/BRZ.

I have the exact sensors with the same issues. Running TS 9.3x
I read on a tundra site that you can just remove the first number("F" in my case) and that is suppose to work. but I have the write issue too. I would love an answer to this also.

I too am running techstream 9.30.x.

I'm going to try an older version of TS and see if that works. Can anyone confirm a version that may work?

Alan 10-29-2014 11:22 PM

I have no idea if this will help, but when I had problems with new sensors, the techs got it to work by using the profile for a Toyota Camry. This was using an ATEQ VT55. The dealership could not get it to work with their factory tool as well.

That's disturbing...

Anybody else have a solution? Would an older version of TS work better, like SpeedWi was going to try?

SpeedWi 10-30-2014 11:48 AM

Well 9.0 TS doesn't either.
FWIW: I took my car to the place that mounted the tires (f*restone) and their tool didn't work when they tried too. Don't know what they used to try though. O'well Maybe someone can/has come up with at work-around or fix.

Has anyone contacted VDO about it? Or whoever is selling the sensors and listing them as compatible?

That's a good idea, although I think right now my big issue is not being able to program the id's as the vehicle claims to still be in initialization mode. I've jumpered the tc/gc thing three times now for over a minute each time and it's still saying that I need to do this. It gives me this results regardless of the id I put in.

No kidding.

Vdo says that they are indeed compatible.

Still no luck getting techstream to connect/program the TPMS system. Unfortunately, in order to get the system programmed I went out and bought an Ateq Quickset as pretty much every shop in my area wanted $50+ to do a TPMS "relearn"... I still managed to have issues with the Quickset and not being able to confirm the new TPMS sensor id's being written, as the tool would write 1FXXXXXX and the car would return 0FXXXXXX. Even though the tool said it didn't work, the TPMS light on the car went out and I confirmed through Techstream that the new TPMS id's were written. Again, just as 0FXXXXXX instead of 1FXXXXXX, the sensors are communicating with the car though, so that's good.
