2013 Shelby GT500..... 662hp

I'm not a huge muscle car fan, but damn, gotta give credit where it's due.

24 horsepower more than the ZR1, 82 hp more than the Camaro ZL1, and 112hp more horsepower than last year's GT500. :confused0068: ...while still getting good enough fuel economy to avoid the gas guzzler tax.

And it'll do 200mph.... (supposedly)

Not gonna lie, this was announced a long ass time ago, but badass nonetheless!

I love how that car looks, its just so aggressive! I have always loved mustangs though. My dad has a 67' fastback and I think its one of the sexiest cars.

Seriously. This is more power than the McLaren F1 had. When you consider power, relative fuel economy, emissions, safety, and price, we are in a golden era for muscle cars.

Only American car I would buy is this one.

I'd be willing to buy ANY car that's worthy of recognition. Doesn't matter to me what Country it comes from. Korea, Japan, Europe, America; IDGAF, a good car is a good car.

I must admit I've been very tempted by the '13 GT500. I've been a Mustang fan since I could drive 25+ years ago, and have owned four, including my current '08 GT. I have a BRZ on order, and will probably trade in our Forester XT on it, and keep my Mustang, Mini, and Miata in addition to the BRZ, but the thought crossed my mind if I'd trade in the Forester, Mustang, and Mini on the GT500 (and skipped the BRZ), and add the money I've saved for a down payment on the BRZ, I could get the GT500 with only about $10k owed on it. Very tempting, but it is the old machete vs scalpel argument, and while brute force is great, I like my small lightweight finely tuned cutting instruments a little better.

I would never want that much power and torque. I'm more of a Goldilock guy when it comes to power and torque. For instance if a car weighs as much as 3400 lbs

180-240hp/150-190 tq = too cold
245-300hp/245-285tq= just right
400-450hp/325-400+tq= too hot

I'll take the middle ground every time but this Shelby is mainly for bragging rights IMO.

I'm with Miniata. Also been a Mustang fan for many years, and the latest crop is most impressive. Test drove a Boss 302 before plunking down a deposit for the BRZ, and I have to admit I was tempted. Only drawback would be having to get rid of my other vehicles to afford it. The ~400hp of the 302 was about perfect for street/strip duty. I'm sure the GT500 will be a monster.

It lacks a little power vs my current Subaru, though the tq comes close. Still, without the AWD grip, I don't think it would be the same thrill. I'll keep an eye out for a used one in 4-5yrs.

Regarding the video, I've driven by that test track, and wished I could get on it myself. Two points: They ran the car on a dynojet, so the numbers will be pleasing, and they seem to be making a lot of excuses for not getting 200mph. If you can't get past 196 starting at 190 on a 1.1mi straight, 200mph is highly unlikely in any non-theoretical situation.
