Borla or trd exhaust
I know their are plenty of exhaust pages out their and I am sorry for doing another but this particular question isn't. To keep my car safe from any disputes on aftermarket parts my dealer offers either the borla or trd catback exhaust that will keep with the toyota warranty plan.
So my question is which would be better for a DD who is looking for a nice mature sound? I'd rather a quality sound versus a louder. Is the trd worth the extra 200-300$ more than the borla? And vise versa. Thank you guys for your input! |
Imo neither. Trd is nice and if you can get it for a good price great. But what you are describing is perrin 2.5inch resonated if you plan to upgrade your header etc.. Quite when crusing but a nice tone when you get on it

@otterpop
I've owned a TRD exhaust since May 2013. I have loved it the entire time. I get compliments on both the sound and unique shape of the tips. It does pinch down slightly under 2.5" in the mid-pipe. That was seemingly done to slightly improve mid-range torque in the dip area (there's an old dyno floating around somewhere that supports this). It definitely sounds "mature" in that there is no rasp and it has a deep bassy tone. Its not as loud as my buddies Nameless axelback. Still the TRD exhaust belts an aggressive tone at WOT, so its mean only when you want it to be. Try to get one used for around $800, its worth it. |
Thank you guys. It was mainly just because i plan on keeping this amazing car for a long time. And basicaly if anything ever happened with the engine or any issues at all. I don't want them to go pointin fingers at aftermarket parts. But the perrin 2.5" or 3" and the nameless axleback with downpipe were what I was originally considering.

I, too can personally vouch for the TRD. I don't think I've found anyone that has complained about the TRD sound unless they like extremely loud exhausts. I think it's definitely a mature sound, a step up from the stock exhaust. The D-tips are a love it or hate it thing. I personally didn't like it in the beginning but it definitely grew on me.

Yeah trd sounds like the right path for me to go. Besides I saw a video of it mated with a nameless downpipe and it was super sexy!

I want the TRD but its price puts it up with the Perrin which may be better. Of course the warranty factor does make it more appealing

The struggle is real.

I think all honestly I will end up getting the perrin 2.5" non resonated exhaust And leave the other components stock. I like that perrin also has a lifetime warranty and if the dealers offer catback a then a catback from any other brand shouldn't hurt.

I've got the Borla and am satisfied with its sound. No drone or rasp and it has a much more aggressive sound than stock especially when you get those revs up.

Its lightweight, relatively cheap, doesn't drone, the tips are nice and different, good build quality, and not too loud. I'd buy it again. And I think they are going for just under $800 on amazon with free shipping. |
I'd still take the TRD, but that's just me. haha

Thank you gentleman.
I went talk to the dealer and he said basically the borla is the louder of the two, But not by much. He Said trd was more bassier but not as loud. So I think I may go borla just for the tad bit of extra sound. |
