Road Rage, immaturity, and spare change

Hey all, I need to share this story and get this off my chest. I will start by saying I have already filed a police report, and I want justice.

Yesterday, I picked up my car from the dealership and was driving on 580 after the Richmond Bridge, a few miles before it merges with 80. I was minding my own business driving with cruise control on in the middle lane. Traffic was starting to build up but wasn't horrible. The left lane was moving very slowly because of one car and the middle lane was moving faster.

Once I got a respectable distance past the guy in the left lane, I moved over, didn't cut him off or anything. I look in the rear view mirror and he is flicking me off and flashing his lights at me. I merely point to the middle lane, suggesting he should move over to let other cars through. He move over and I thought that was that and kept driving with cruise control.

Next thing I know, he is moving more all the way to the right, weaving traffic, attempting to catch up to me. I sped up a little to put distance between us, but traffic was thick enough and it was unsafe to even go 5 over the speed limit. I had gained a little distance, slowed down, reset cruise control. He caught up and got in front of me.

Once in the lane in front of me, he starts throwing handfuls of change out the window. I had to break and swerve to avoid it. He did this two or three more times. I am surprised an accident didn't happen behind me. At this point I called the police.

As 580 merged with 80, he was still in front of me, traffic kept me locked in the lane, and I needed to get his plate. By University ave he had gotten next to me, and threw a huge handful of change through the passenger window, that hit the rear half of my car. Damage was luckily minor, but i have several chips through the clear coat and paint, to the base metal. I slammed on my breaks and pulled into the break down lane, avoiding another motorist. I waited there til the police arrived.

The man drove a Gold Honda Civic EX with the license plate 6CGR587. The man was hispanic, slightly heavy set, with very short hair, buzzed, and not to be racist, a chico stache (don't know how else to describe it, sorry). If any one knows any one who knows him, let him know I will give him a chance to deal with this like a man. If he does not want to be a man about, I will press charges and the police will be at his door.

I counted in total almost 10 chips in the paint, some in the front bumper, with the more serious ones on the rear driver side quarter panel area.

Like I said, the report has been filed, images have been submitted, and the police have his plate number. I was and still am in shock about his reaction, recklessness, and immaturity. My car is the small part of the picture. The people around us are the big picture. Many serious accidents could have happen. I was watching the road while moving from lane to lane, he however was not, since he was watching me and finding change to throw.

anyways, went home and saw one of the most beautiful sunsets, and let it go for the night. Please, if anyone knows this guy, get in touch with me, and we can work a deal to get my paint repaired, if not charges will be pressed.

Just report it

Wow, that sucks. Glad you're okay though as road rage can get out of hand real quick. Hope the authorities find this guy and your insurance takes good care of you.

I know I am paying for not the greatest coverage, However I believe I did pay for the factory protection plan. Needless to say, I will be investing in a dashcam before any other mods.

Really sucks, just has me in such a down mood, and I honestly feel worse for that guy. I have had some road rage before, but even in the worst, flipping the bird out the window has been about it. To not be able to let something go like that, especially when you are the one who is in the wrong is almost unbelievable. Such a common occurrence on I-80, people driving whatever speed they want in the left lane like they own it, only thinking of themselves, and not the line of cars stuck behind them.

Just sucks it had to be me. Report is filed and the police will get in touch with me next week. I am just offering the opportunity for him to make it right with out law enforcement involvement, but judging by his character, this attempt is in vain.

I hope you press charges against the guy, what a ****.

Hilarious story though... just imagining some fat guy chucking change at your car. Unbelievable.

You're doing the right thing. Keep us posted on the results. Catching the details helps the LE a lot.

Not poking fun and we all have road range once or twice, but I always catch myself saying "...never argue with an idiot, everyone around can't tell you two apart...". That includes the 5am commute on 680 South to San Jose. Everyone has a Nascar license plate! That includes me, as well as the panel trucks with tools moving around trying to go 80mph in congestion. You ever seen a jobox move in a open truck - in stop/go traffic? Only thing scarier is an electric vehicle not having enough juice to make the Sunol grade climb. And this is not the Tesla kind of EV.

Keep on raging...just stay away from those that show it off :)

a ricer Hispanic throwing handfuls of change at you!?

That's incredible!

"yo mang, you change lanes I change you back so here's some change and you can keep it"

I always wondered how much damage that would cause, now I know, excellent!

Someone on this forum mentioned throwing change at a car a while back (if) thye did something (can't remember what) that was offensive.

That is really malicious and the asshole that did it deserves to pay the price with the law.

Can anyone recommend a shop to get a quote for this.

The chips are to the base metal. I need a quote to repair them, and a quote to opti-coat the car.

The guy looked like mixed ethnicity, with a little African-American maybe. Still too soon to look upon this with humor. I will laugh when the police find him and give him the bill.

Need a good shop to get a quote from, so please let me know of some good spots.

This is the reason I have a dashcam.

I don't think you should be looking for this guy. He sounds like he could eff you up or worse and he obviously doesn't care about going to jail. Just let the cops handle it dude.

I coudl eff him up just as much as he could eff me up. I am trying to find him to give him a chance to make things right, who knows could have been a very bad day for him, but like I said it is in vain.

Plus if I find him, I can tell the cops where to go. But with his license plate number I don't see how they wouldn't be able to find him... :iono:
