Car keyed!!

So I just got my car keyed, unsure if it was at school or at home. While walking to my car I saw a deep white scratch on the hood (6 inches), look towards the quarter panel and saw another one, about 2 inches. So I was extremely mad, oh well had to drive to work. This was annoying but it wasn't too crazy. While driving to work I thought to myself, I need to do a walk around the car. Sure enough on the rear quarter panel there are two 16 inch scratches. All of them down to the primer and exposing some metal. I probably wouldn't have filed a claim if it was the front small ones but that quarterpanel one really annoys me. It's going to start raining more soon and metal being exposed isn't good. I had the thought of using the paint doctor products but that'll probably make it look really ugly with these long scratches. What would you guys suggest? You can bet I'm getting a dashcam now.

that sucks. sorry to hear man.

Another reason to keep a dash cam, there will be the possibility of capturing the perpetrator walking around your car before the keying took place. Sorry to hear about this. Makes my heart sink if I were to think about it occurring to my car.

In a way I kinda wish they had done a bit more so I at least feel ok paying the deductible. About to get an estimate now so we'll see how much it really costs.

You know I never would've thought that would happen to me either but look, here I am. I don't get it but I guess you're not doing something right if you don't have haters. I just uploaded a picture, it's not overboard but still enough that it bothers me especially on a black car. Also seems like it's down to the metal at some parts so it has to be fixed before it gets worse. Now I'm also annoyed cause I could've put that money towards car parts instead of this bull.

I don't get it either. People who commit these acts should have their arms removed and their legs chained together permanently. That way we can all identify them.
Good luck with the repair and the hunt for the deprived perp.

Estimated 1500-2000 which I expected. I just don't wanna pay the $500 deductible right now. Such a small thing that can cost so much.

Use your comprehensive insurance to get it fixed. The deductible sucks, but not as much as the $1500-$2000 it'll cost to get it painted right.

Maybe for now you can color sand it and hit it with a buffer and see what you can get out?

Sorry to see this. Check to see if there was any possibility of security cameras at school recording this. Otherwise, go through insurance, as it won't increase your rates.

Already did a claim with the insurance. They said I can go through with the repairs anytime, even a year from now. So right now I'm just deciding if I should just do it now or later. I'm graduating soon so it's either now or when I graduate and more stable. I'm just thinking of all the things I could spend $500 on which isn't helping me to get it fixed now. But I hate driving around with those 2 big lines!

I might do Dr. Color Chip for the time being until I actually decide what I want to do. Would that be an issue with claims later on? I don't see why it would be though. Dr. Color Chip + Dashcam and wait for these guys to hit again. I had an random broken windshield a year ago and I have a feeling it's the same people, both times in the morning and after coming home for my break in between school and work.

$500 is a drop in the bucket when it comes to the cost of the car. There's no way I'd want to be driving around with that damage on it. Before you go the Dr. ColorChip route, see if you can find a buddy who knows how to use a buffer. You'd be surprised at how much of a scratch you can take out with a bit of buffing and a light sanding.

Got my car keyed near campus as well. Costs totaled to around $2500. If I ever catch the culprit (which I probably won't since I don't reside there anymore), I'd ask the person if he/she would like to play a game :)

You'll have to have it repainted, but in the interim:
