NASA Maxxis Contingency and Konig Wheel discount

Maxxis contingency is the best(disclaimer: meh, not needed). lol!
They're about NT01 or shaved RA-1 speeds. Won't be able to win against Hoosiers or RRs if the other D competitors are on that, but depending on your competition and how many competitors are registered, they are definitely the tire to run. Price is very very good too...

Yeah, we were fighting with getting TT forms last weekend at our track event. Thankfully someone had them saved on their dropbox.

With 5+ starters even 3rd place gets a tire! I think some of the guys in TTE are going to pad the field in order to get tires ... I might get something started for TTD!

I don't run NASA, but yes, I like the RC1.

Do it. As long as you don't have 3 other competitive cars on Hoosiers, it's the tire to run. I have 2 sets of RC-1, but doing RR testing for the rest of the year. All the guys in PTD in my region are on R6s or SM7s or RRs. I'll probably race on RRs next year, TT on R7 or RC-1 depending on car count.

You should run with us. More to win, and better competition.

225 or 235?

I'm most likely planning on switching over to the RC-1 for the contingency next year as well, unless I my dyno reclass attempt will let me do exhaust for free (unlikely) which would let me stick to 225 Hoosier R7's.

I am planning on running 225 RC-1's if I do switch, to get the -4 points back in TTD, allowing me to do headers/exhaust. That said, I will be losing a lot of tread width to the R7's. Although they are both labelled as 225mm tires, the section width on the hoosier's is 9.7 inches compared the the Maxxis' 8.9 inches.

Curious if anyone (@CSG Mike or @phastafrican) has any data on how much slower the RC-1 is compared to a similarly sized Hoosier R6. I'm assuming somewhere around 0.5-1 second on a ~1:30 lap, maybe closer to 2 seconds on a ~2:00+ lap.

FYI: 17x8 is 19 lbs. 17x9 will be more. The value is in being able to replace them at that price over multiple wheels. <$150 each wheel is great value any day.

I don't have a direct comparison between the tires in the same trim or to R6/R7, and I only have data from Road Atlanta which is high speed corner + high hp.
1:48:2 as fastest in stock trim with 235 RC-1.
1:46.6 as fastest with coilovers on old, dried out 225 contis, which are about 2 seconds slower than R6. (they're crap if you leave them exposed to the sun for 3 weeks on a trailer :( )
The gap could be even bigger at Roebling road, which is non-stop medium speed cornering.

Your estimate of 2 seconds is about correct. Toyo RRs are about 1 second slower than R6, and 1 second faster than RC-1s. Depending on the track, this margin could be larger or smaller.

I have a simple solution for you. Sell the Ohlins and get 2 or 3pts back! RCE T2s are 6pts and can be valved for whatever springs you want. That'll let you run either R7s or RC-1s.

That just feels too much like going backwards for me. I've gotten a taste of the high life and I can't go back :bellyroll:

I think I'm ok sticking with the RC-1's as I think I should be competitive enough winning at least 2 tires per event with their awesome program, assuming it stays the same for next year. That and I'm planning on instructing next year and if I was running Hoosiers I'd be worried about adding the extra heat cycles from driving students etc.

Come time for National's, if I'm not in the 2:11 range at VIR with the Maxxis, I may take of my BBK for Nats and run the R7's just for that event.

Sounds like a plan. As long as 2nd or 3rd is attainable, that's the way to go.

I don't think the 235 width tire is going to be competitive enough in TT3, but that contingency is nice. It wish they would add a 245 to make best use of the TT3 tire size rules. I might try a set before paying twice as much for a set of purple crack.

I was looking to get a set of 17x7 stockers and putting the 225 RC-1 on them for track wheels, but I've been told that they might bulge out too much. Has anyone put the RC-1 on the stock wheel?

Ideally, I'd go with a 17x8(9) RPF1 and put the 235 RC-1 on it.
