Audio keeps craping out...

Hello, everybody! I recently installed a subwoofer in my BRZ by tapping into the signal inputs of the tiny rear amp and running them to a larger class D amp. After wiring everything up, it all worked fine until I decided to crank the audio passed 50%. At that point, all the audio goes out. Not immediately, but after playing for a couple of minutes. When I say all the audio, I mean EVERYTHING, including the beeps from menu navigation. The situation is fixed by restarting the car, but the problem always persists. I can play music for hours if below ~50%, but I have no idea why this is happening. I even tried unplugging the wires from my amp/sub, but the issue is still there. I feel as though my wiring would only effect the door speakers, as it is coming solely from that rear amp, so I have no idea what's up...

I did find this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1778955
but I still don't really have a solution...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You're putting the head unit in protection mode. Did you use a loc, or tap signal into the amp at signal level? If you tapped the signal into rca level input that could be why.

I just tapped into the wires and ran that to an RCA. What do I do to fool it into thinking I didn't do that? Lol I'm fairly inexperienced at wiring audio equipment.

You need to put a loc like from pac audio in between the line level signal and the sub amp, or you need to wire into speaker level inputs if your amp has them. Any stereo shop should be able to hook you up with an appropriate loc, or you can order online.

^This guy!
I didn't know what a line output converter was until now, so thankya much! I assume it just creates a buffer between different ohms or something?

Anywho, I'm grabbing one tomorrow morning and will post results :)

Picked up a PAC LOC7 today, and wired it up... All problems solved! Thanks so much for the info! I'm loving the sound; got a 12" slimline JL with a crappy bazooka amp and it sounds sooooo much better!
