Point in the fuel rail cover?
Hey guys
Went to install my Power blocks today and realized the fuel rail covers are pretty heavy but im not sure if its serves any purpose as most of fuel rail are hard metal. The only thing i can think is that it acts as a ground for the Direct injection module and shield wires from heat? If anyone has some idea if its worth while to remove it it will be appreciated. Each side is at least 3kgs i think Thanks in advance? |
You do need the ground for the injector controller on the passenger side. Drivers side...I'd say it is more cosmetic than anything, and keeps the wires more secure.
I doubt they are anywhere near 3kgs, probably 1 lb at most is what I recall. So not much of a weight loss. |
Well i only re-attached the side where the direct injection module is and left it as it is on the other size. Theres actually not much wires on the other side anyways

Drivers side one weighs 2 lbs. Remove it.
Passenger side one weighs 2 lbs 7oz. You can get this velox bracket for the Ecu mounting. http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/velo...l#.WExXYBmvDqA Cleans up the engine bay alot. :) |
Think of it this way: If you have an accident that damages the DI fuel rail, do you WANT >2000 PSI fuel spraying around the engine bay?
Your call. |
I remember reading somewhere on here that they are there to protect the fuel rails from damage and subsequent leaking during a crash. I don't know how true it is, so that that for what it's worth.
