OEM Wheels are peeling
 

Has anyone had their wheels start peeling?

This should be covered by your basic 3 year, 36000 mile warranty. Stop by your dealer.

If one of my customers was to stop by with a wheel like that, I'd have no problem ordering one up.

You can't really leave any leaching type cleaner on paint over night dude....that's a herp a derp claim not a warranty claim.

I get what your saying, but its not like i left a harsh wheel cleaner all over the wheels.... it was foaming tire shine on the tires. The tire shine instructions printed on the can even say "simply spray and walk away". Ive had 11 vehicles and have used foaming tire shne on all of them because its convenient and never had a problem with tire shine eating the finish.. Anyway what s done is done.. Now have to figure out what new wheels to get

Unless there was some crazy weird overspray, that isn't where I would expect paint damage from tire shine (if it would cause any in the first place). The paint near the lip of the rim looks fine, and its the side of the spokes and near the lugs that have issue - far away from where you spray.


I know the stuff runs, but I would think there would be paint issues near the rim lip where you would get the most overspray.

It looks like the outer part of the rim isn't painted in the darker finish and it's more of the aluminum / silver color. Also, that darker paint finish is more on the insides of the spokes (if that's what you call them) and then the darker finish runs into the lug nut areas. Correct me if I've mistaken.

@Bevans555 : I don't know, I suppose you can see what your local dealer says after a second look. :)

I know, right? The pic in the first post is the worst, see the ones below for how the others looks. I washed the car last weekend and last night and the wheels were fine. I check them out today and there is loose paint that has lifted off the wheel and kinda balled up. Like I said the only chemicals that have been on them is Meguiars gold class wash and hot foam shine.

They used plastidip!!!!

Go get the wheels warrantied.

That's definitely not plasti dip, that's just a stock wheel.

At least now we know what to use to strip the wheels very easily.

This could turn out to be a good thing. See if you could get TRD wheels as replacements and pay the difference if there is any.

Really weird...did you get your car used?

Always wanted to see what the wheels looked with the paint media blasted off. Haven't seen any threads where this has been done. Double dog dare you.
