hand brake boot too tight
any one notice that when u pull the hand brake .... i guess high, the boot unclips at the corner next to the shifter trim or is that just mine ??
is there a way i could go under the car and tighten the cable a bit so that the handle can't be pulled so high? |
Welcome to the site, akash. Well, I guess no one has written a DIY for E-brake adjustment.
It's not the cable. Start with adjusting the brake shoes. Yes, shoes. I did mine within a week of owning the car. Now 2-3 clicks is all it takes to lock it up. |
It could be the cable depending oh how hard he pulls... The shoe adjusters work automatically so it shouldn't be that...

As a general rule, drum brake star wheel adjusters are supposed to automatically take up the slack. This is not always the case though! Quote:
Nope, it's a cable driven mini-drum brake setup in the back that's a separate system from the main disk brake. |
Here ya go. Bottom line - with the brake lever disengaged, first tighten the star nut until you have a hard time rotating the hub. Then back it out so the shoes disengage from the hub. I like to get it so the shoes just barely scrub through a small arc in the rotation. The assembly will seat in almost immediately so that tiny bit of contact is ok.
Don't waste your time taking apart the center console. Check your shoes first. |
So who wants to admit to using the handbrake to drift? :)
This is just reminding me why I hate drum brakes... |
the laziness is upon me, any chance toyota/scion will do this under warranty ?

I would imagine so as you could play dumb and say something is wrong with the boot... |
Do that and tell them it's always been like that.
Oh, nooooooow I get the who-wants-to-admit thing. I bought mine with 1800 mi and adjusted them the first weekend. They were/are brand new on the inside. I swing it out but just to practice emergency on-ramp manoevers. :D |

on the note of drifting this thing is extremely hard to break lose. hell i threw it in to a 90degree turn at 70 and just got a baby power slide. I'm coming out of an mr2 turbo so never really got in to hand brake drifting or any kind of drifting, but come on!! give me something to clinch my ass hole over

Go find a big empty parking lot and hold down that puppy for, what is it, 5-10 seconds? I came out of a 240Z. |
