2015 86CUP rules discussion - What changes do you want and what can we improve?

Lets discuss any rule changes you guys want to see. Changes should be at least backed by strong anecdotal evidence, with hard data and reasoning being preferred.

The board will discuss the changes based on the evidence presented for potential changes to the 2015 rule set.

Also, we're looking for nomiations and volunteers to be on the board for 2015!

Last but not least, what can we do to make our grassroots series better? Please remember that board members are not compensated, and that we're all doing this to have fun, and grow/educate the community on how to drive and give everyone a place to push their cars safely!

Could you add a link to the current rules for review? While I know we can all find them, it would make commenting more streamlined.

I want to see shark fin antennaes with negative points.
Also if you have a jdm body kit, you should be able to have all free points.

As in jdm anything keeps you in stock class no matter how much horsepower.

Plus, a Voltex sticker gets you free tires.

In super modified somebody else does the pedal dance for you?

Following this closely for changes.

Some suggestions

Make only best 8 events count (previously 9 events)
Perhaps fairer to those who can't always make it to the track for a number of reasons (family, vacations, other events on same weekend, budget...)

Review minimum and maximum points for each class.
Are the front runners of each class maxing out their points allotment? If we were to plot a histogram of all the drivers, using 1pt buckets, how would that look?

Only three Stock Class drivers have attended 3 or more events. Most dedicated participants end up being bumped into Street after a few mods. Should the maximum points budget for Stock Class be increased slightly?

Annual awards to
Sexiest 86
Rookie of the year
Best GoPro clip (going off spectacularly, mad angle, you name it..)
More!

Class color coded (green, blue, orange, red) 86 Cup stickers!

NorCal's frequency of tracking could change. Any thoughts of the current 12 events or can you adopt a lesser number? NorCal's possible changes are not written in stone so I'll be looking at this thread. Can SoCal 86Cup sponsor's be shared with other regions? Likewise with NorCal since I'm currently looking for new and/or additional "86Cup" -friendly vendors.

And thanks for all the support you and CSG have given to NorCal! I hope we haven't disappointed you too much :bellyroll:

Add a Canadian stop in the series :D :D

I dont run there, speaking from someone trying to do what I can to help Raul out for the south east but:

Camber plates should take points. They are definitely a speed advantage in cornering. Seems excessive part to be free in 'stock' class.

Also a question. This may be covered but it isn't clear to me. Shocks (Konis), on stock springs. Does that take points? Trying to do whatever's possible to fit my SCCA Stock/Street classed car into this Stock category. Outside of SCCA cars, you won't see many stock spring cars without stock dampers.

it'd be nice to have stock class align with stock/street for SCCA. That is pretty much stock car, not even camber bolts allowed. Allowed mods there are 140 TW tires, 1 sway bar change, and +1'' diameter wheels. basically 18x7 or 17x7 allowed. So that basically sounds like 0 points and no allowance for camber bolts, top hats, LCAs, or anything spherical.

So you're asking to swap a $40 mod (camber bolts), $600 mod (rear LCA) and $600 mod (camber plate) for $800 (tires), $200 (sway), $1000 (wheels)?

Why spend more money for a slower car with worst wear and tear?

Kido1986 10-15-2014 08:24 AM

@donutfilling

While Id like to see a class myself for SCCA CS cars, they DO allow camber bolts in CS

wparsons 10-15-2014 12:13 PM

^^ SCCA only allows factory camber bolts that have a documented process for aligning stock cars, right? Whiteline offset bolts aren't CS legal as far as I know.

As for camber adjustment, arms, etc... a local time attack series here doesn't discriminate on how you get a non stock alignment, so the penalty for camber bolts is the same as camber plates, etc. They also penalize for swapping out bushings for bearings. The assumption with their rule set is that any mod you're doing is being maximized, ie alignments... not doing -1* all around, setting it for max grip.
