AUSTRALIAN 86 GTS query
Hey guys, I'm from Australia and I'm thinking of buying an 86 GTS :)
I just have two really simple queries - every dealer I've been to actually doesn't know the answers and have given conflicting answers: Does the 86 GTS AUSTRALIAN spec have: - Auto-folding mirrors? I know they're power folding mirrors, but do they automatically fold out when unlocking the car and fold in when locking the car? - Auto-levelling headlights? I know the headlights come on and off automatically, but do they level the low beams automatically? Thanks so much guys! The dealers actually don't know cause they don't have any in stock, ever. lol |
How do you expect someone in the States to know the specs of the Aussie cars??Go on the Australian Forums for the answers.

ah whoops. I'm new to this forum. cheers

No. Oem Subaru kit is about $160.
Yes, there's a sensor in the rear of the car. |

Wonder how the auto levelling sensor works, if its in the rear of the car :/ Cheers man |
Auto folding Mirrors?
No they are not automatic. There's a button you press to fold them in and out. I wish they were automatic but you get used to it, now I just naturally hit the fold button right after the up windows button - takes about the same time. Auto-levelling headlights? Sorry not 100% sure but I don't think there is automatic levelling, not that I've seen. Source - me. I'm from Sydney and I have the gts. |
Yeah from memory when I read the manual it says there is auto headlights adjuster. Mirror has to be folded manually by pressing the button.
You can also set auto headlights, it will turn on automatically when it senses the area is getting dark. If you want good dealer go to Chatswood Toyota. They also have 86 from time to time. Dealer in Sydney near Newtown one used to have 3-4 at any given time. |
Auto folding mirrors?
WORST Transformer EVER! |
Typical Australian responses, useless and full of misinformation. That's why we use us forums instead of au.
I bought mine through a group buy but they came from Japan. It detects either the angle or the distance to the ground. You can relocate it to change the level or fix it if you lower the car too much. |

Auto mirrors and self adjusting headlights do no exist here (unless I missed them on a special edition list someplace) |

PS all Toyota 86 come from Japan. Actually show me where on manual that says it detects distance or angles of the ground. |

The sensor works by moving up and down and varying the position of the headlights to match, if the control arm moves upward that means the rear suspension is compressed like if you are carrying a large load and lowers the lights to not blind other drivers. It's why when you lower an Aus GTS the headlight range becomes a lot shorter. Source i replaced this arm with a shorter cusco one to fix the sensor after i lowered. |
