Question regarding lightweight wheels and cheaply priced tires..

So I've seen people in this thread purchasing and liking certain wheels and tires that are extremely low on the price point scale, but what wheels/tires are actually recommendable despite that low price point? If I could get some grippy, high weight limit, high life performance, good quality tires in 245/45/18, for the 100 bucks a tire I've seen you guys getting I would seriously bust a nut..

And also one more question: what are some lightweight wheels that don't bust the bank? I'm down for wheels up to 400 each but would love 250 each.. granted they look good, and won't crank by going over a pothole..

Why are 18 inch wheels important? The larger the wheel, the more expensive the tire. My wheels are 16, weigh 12 lbs and my rs3 tires are dirt cheap. I'm still rocking 225

It's my daily driver and I want something that looks nice and fills up the wheel well a bit more than my stock 17s. If dirt cheap, good quality tires don't exist for 18s then it's fine, I'll just spend the money, but I'm just curious..

Not a direct answer, and perhaps not news, but the standard rule of thumb with wheels is:

1) Light
2) Strong
3) Inexpensive

Pick any two of your choice, and then enter your bankcard number.

I figured as much.. I'm okay with staying at 20lbs a wheel, I just really do need 18x8.5

I am a big believer in you get what you pay for

But I also see a lot of new Mercedes with continental tires with bubbled sidewalls. I also saw my moms lexus come with shitty bridgestone el400 tires that come on base model civics

SO I dunno but

I know on track, no one is running shit brand bargain basement tires

I guess bottom line; do research for your intended application and keep in mind "you get what you pay for" with a grain of salt.

I absolutely agree, it's just that I constantly see very decent looking tires for a hundred bucks each. Hancook Ventus are around that price too apparwntly.. Would it be possible to have a decent setup with a budget of 2k for wheels and tires?

Tire Rack can get you close (see below), and it's a lot better than decent.

Note that the diameter of 245/45-18 tires is two inches greater than stock.

Be patient, scour forum classifieds (nasioc and here) and craigslist.

I picked up 18x9.5 enkei rpf1 sbc and 265/35/18 z2 star spec tires for your budget.

Over half of that being the tires which were far more expenive than your target range.

Ive never bought a new set of wheels in my life. And long as deals keep on popping up theres a good chance i never will

Awesome. So it's definitely possible then! I heard a lot about the pss btw, so I went to Costco since they are the closest to tire rack pricing and they offered me the Michelin as3, they speed rating is insane but have you heard of them and are they any good? They're about any hundred bucks cheaper than the pss

Hey man, don't judge me. ;_;

tires make a bigger difference in handling/performance on a car than a wheel does. id rather have a heavy oem cast wheel with sticky tires than a lightweight TE37 wheel with some shitty generic all seasons.
