Lowest APR for New Car Loan?
Was searching around and the lowest I've found is 1.65% with RBFCU (found out about them when I saw their ad at the local movie theatre).
I usually prefer to stick with PenFed, but they're at 2.34% for 60 months. Any others which you guys have spotted? Looking at 60 months term... Any help would be appreciated. :) |
Credit unions are usually the way to go if you want super low rates. My local credit union was offering 1.74% for people with good credit and auto-debitted payments, however when I financed my FRS, Toyota was having a 1.9% + $750 recent graduate rebate if you financed through them. The difference in interest paid at the end of the 60 month term was ~100ish (way less than that rebate), so I took Toyota's deal.
Then again, if you can't get a good loan rate now, holiday season is rolling around and I know my local credit union runs a promo for refinancing loans with a newer, lower rate. Maybe you can find something similar? Definitely call around, and remember that you can get a loan pre-approval from your credit union to wave in the dealership's face if you want to negotiate their interest rate - but the best practice is negotiate the total price of car, then let the salesman talk to you about interest rates and payments. Keep your eye on the prize! |
Fantastic... Thank you for the thorough advice.
I'll probably call around locally or do some more searching online to see if I can find something better... Total out the door price has been negotiated and agreed upon. Sales guy asked if I was going to finance, and I said yes, but I didn't say if it was going to be with their dealer. I'm just going to find the best on my own and be done with it. |
I was going to go through USAA when I got mine they quoted at 1.9. But once it got down to it I went through Toyota and got in at 1.5% for 36months. I was pretty surprised to say the least.

I got 1.9% for 60 months from a local bank through the dealer. I might have been able to get a 1.6% rate from a CU but it's not worth the headache of compiling the paperwork and being between the dealer/CU to save $3 a month lol

Just on the look out for a special promotion which is worthwhile to take advantage of before making the decision... Old habit of mine, hehe... |
Always better to go armed with financing when you purchase than without. Big part of the reason I bought a '14 BRZ instead of the '15 was the discount coupled with 0% financing. Hard for the banker in me to pass up free money.

I had the itch for a 2015, therefore I went ahead and placed an order. I applied and got pre-approved for the 1.65% I spotted. I suppose I did the best I could with what I desired... |
I went with my '13 FR-S aafter the '14s had rolled onto the lot. Was able to get $1500 off the sticker and 1.9% through Toyota. :D

Looks like Subaru (with JPMorgan Chase) dropped their APR for '15 BRZ's from 1.9 to 1.49 for this month in my area.
'14 BRZ is still at .9 (don't know if other areas still at 0%). Probably reduced to help stimulate slow sales during this time of year. |
