Bad paint job after accident. (opinion)
 

So about 10 months ago I hit on my front right tire. I messed up the fender and the bumper, everything else was intact (excluding steering rods and suspension pcs). I took it to the original Subaru dealership where I bought the car, and they told me they would work on it. This is my first accident ever; and to my ignorant self sought that no other body shop could do a better job than the original dealer. ooo boy was I wrong.

over the past couple months I've been noticing my new fender and bumper & they are both slightly darker than the rest of the car. I asked a buddy of mine to see his input, and he told me "that's as good as it gets, it will never be the same". I find that painful and hard to believe.

Now I will ask some of you guys what your input on the screen shots. Can the paint job be done better if I take it to a better body shop? or this as good as it gets? Im don't mind paying out of pocket to get it to look how it was before, I just want to know if its possible.

Yes, it is possible. That paint job does not look good. I'm sure you can find a good body shop in your area.

Paint doesn't match and the damn bumper isn't even put on correctly... Lol you can bitch about that you know? You paid for it, even if insurance paid for it, you're still paying for it. I'd bitch and moan till they resprayed it and got it right. Not your fault shit isn't perfect on your car.

And fyi, red is one of the hardest colors to match in paint. But it SHOULD be easier than an older car since you're car is still fairly new and doesn't have paint fade...

I'd totally take this up with your insurance if they had anything to do with it... Let them use their muscle to get this fixed and done right.

If repair was paid for out of pocket then I'd take it up with the dealer who did the work and see if they will be respectful and work with you. That's REALLY noticeable.

Paint matching should be easy on a new car as there is no fading/etc. I had a new rear bumper cover put on my DGM BRZ and I can't even tell a difference that it was replaced and painted. Hope you can get this sorted!

On one note.. the match is bad. Red isn't really that hard to match on this car. That is bad. They will probably say they can't fix unless they fade into the doors for more money.

On another note.. the finish looks great (is it? up close?).

If they fix it.. at least it should look damn good. I've never been happy with the finish with any budget repaint.

That fender.....is very noticeable and feel like could be done better. Like others have said, the quality looks good though, might be worth letting the dealer who took care of it have another go at it to try and get it right.

That's crazy. Our red has no metallic so it's not that bad. Go back and complain. They didn't even blend! They just painted the new panels.
I could do a better job with spray cans

in your pictures it looks like two shades. It could be done way better granted not my BRZ in these pictures. This is a local shop on my 98 Corvette. I don't even trust dealers to do easy work like oil changes. This local shop got this done in like 4 days. In person can't even tell a difference

i can see a color difference from fender to door. and i alsa agree the gaps arnt perfect with the hood to fender. i can judge from the pictures on quality of the finish. I use to be a body/paint for years. With that being said red is difficult get perfect if the shop dosent try to match the paint with a digital paint reader and just mix paint to oem specs it wont be perfect. Reds in that shade Fade faster than any other color.

The main difference I see is the fender and the door.

What a GOOD body shop would had done is blended the door with the fender. They would had sprayed some paint on that door and cleared it.

The front bumper is usually slightly off because painting plastic is different than painting metal.

To me the most sore thumb thing is the side view with the door and the fender.

I wouldn't have even driven off with a paint match that bad...


Only a blind person would think that's a good match.

It also is partly your insurance's fault for being cheap asses and likely not paying the shop to blend panels (saving them money.) Sometimes paint just doesn't match, had they blended it you likely wouldn't notice. However the shop should have excersised some self quality control and argued with the insurance on that themselves had they seen how bad the paint differnce is.

I absolutely dread the day, if it ever comes, that there is damage to my satin white pearl brz that requires new body panels and repainting. If it ever happens I might just dig into savings and get that aimgain front bumper and repaint the car.
