Bad Day

Got in an accident today. Nobody was hurt. Except for my feelings... which are in critical condition.

I was heading down the middle lane of a 3 lane road. The left lane was backed up and stopped. Someone pulled out of line in the left lane into the middle lane in front of me. I slammed on my breaks, but I couldn't stop in time since they were essentially stopped in the middle of the road.

I could use some success stories right about now. Anyone get into an accident and have their cars returned to them good as new?

Glad everyone is ok. Hope the other driver got a ticket. Time for their insurance to pay to get her looking new again.

Wow... Not a good feeling at all, I agree. And not the best time to point fingers but you were probably written up as at fault, correct?

I've had a similar accident (although more damage) in the past on a German car and it took 2-3 months to repair... I don't think yours should take that long though... After my repair was finished, car performed the same, I feel. However, if the accident happened to me today, I'd likely have thoughts of trading in due to my OCD mind.

Good news: Looks like the frontal impact wasn't as deep or forceful as it could have been... I'm guessing that your suspension and engine are safe.

As always, I'd try to convince the insurance to total it out, but not sure if they will accept since the damage is not as outstanding. Worth a try though...

Sorry to hear. :( (Btw, what area in Texas?)

Man that sucks, I remember wanting to cry because I hit a raccoon and just cracking my bumper(nothing major just that the car is only a couple of months old). I couldn't imagine how this must feel. Good luck to you and I hope they can make it look good as new.

^ For a $20k repair, they should have just totaled it, no?

Looks good though (the after pic, of course).

It looks like no frame damage. It just the Impact point is high on top end of bumper and pushed up hood and fender. Did your air bag came out at all? If not, I think it is a better kind of front collision. I remember one of my friends rear end his celica to a Licoln town car and the impact was so hard that the engine fall on the floor lol

Well, you could look at it as an opportunity to mod :)

Similar thing happened to me a few months ago. If you can convince them that he pulled out in front of you unsafely (i.e., without signalling), then you should not be at fault. Of course, having dashcam footage helps...

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. To answer the questions you guys have had...

This is in College Station, TX. Unfortunately I don't have a dash cam. And it happened so fast I honestly don't remember if she used her turn signal or not.

I wasn't written up as at fault. Neither of us were. All the cop did was have us exchange info (which we had already mostly done) and listened to both of our sides of the story. He didn't even fill out any paperwork. I wasn't in the best of mind sets at the time, but if I remember right he said if anyone was towed he'd have to write a citation, but as it was we could just go.

I guess I could have pushed it and she probably would have gotten a citation? The other driver was already having a pretty hard time though, she had been crying for a good 15 minutes before the cop got there.

Also one of the first things she said when we pulled over was that she was "so sorry."

No air bags deployed.

raven1231, everything looks good after the repairs. I'm also surprised they didn't total it with $20k of damage. I assume that included some engine repair/replacement?

chas3wba0, your video wasn't easy to watch. Our situations weren't exactly the same, but what the other driver did was pretty similar in both cases, changing lanes from a stop. I was much further from the intersection though. At least a hundred yards away (the left lane was REALLY backed up). Do you mind telling me what happened afterwards with the insurance and all?

andrealynn.BRZ, hah I noticed the new exhaust. Figured that might have been a result of it all.

I'm worried she'll never be the same, sometimes cars just aren't ever the same after an accident. But hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm concerned about handling and non-factory paint jobs. It didn't look like there was any significant damage to anything in the engine bay, but it's hard to say. The hood was wedged and I couldn't even pop it.

Thanks again for all of the good thoughts. And if anyone has any more positive outcomes to share, keep em' coming.
