Yeah... nobody is going to swap those unreliable things! And technically BMW doesn't even make real inline 6 engine's like the RB or JZ, BMW make's slant 6 engines.

Ok finally got off my lazy butt and got you all a weight of the engine minus the tranny. Here are the results.

Aren't you missing some covers on the engine which nets 10+ lbs. Anything else missing?

C130NAV 11-29-2014 01:15 AM

Its sitting on its side the only things missing are the Intake cover the little one that pops off and the oil pan. It has bin drained I'm sure the residual oil in it makes up for the single cover but its still pretty close. The flywheel is not on it nor is the clutch but tomorrow i can throw all those on a scale and see what it would be with them. :-)

Wow.....how did I miss this post?.....LS1 swapped FRS here....84 pound weight gain....350 whp of N/A power.......front to weight balance exactly the same......was 400 whp of turbo powered before.......not even close comparing it to the V8.....instant torque....power response you would never get except with displacement.....handles the same.....drives the same.....with one exception.....when you touch the gas peddle..........I have 300 miles now behind me driving a V8 powered FRS.

Is it safe to say that you're looking at around $15k for the swap while performing all your own work?

I remember reading a thread where someone reported spending around 8k to do all his own work, fabbing and electrical for a V8 swap AFTER selling his brand new FA20 to offset costs and he already had the engine he was putting in.
