Best Fuel and extras to use in SA
2 Attachment(s)
Hey Everyone,
New to the forum, also picking up my Toyota GT86 today . I have been reading a lot on the forum and I was interested in what fuel you guys would recommend. Also what extra's would you suggest adding to this beauty. Thanks |
Welcome! First of all get your TRD accents on the kit painted right - careful who does it as there have been some horror stories. Then VPS the front end and commence the 1600km run in period.
Consensus shows that Sasol 95 is very good, Engen not too bad but avoid Shell Nitro+. Enjoy your new baby, you're gonna love her!:wub::wub::party0030: |
VPS VPS VPS VPS VPS! PLEASE VPS....:thanks:
Then maybe in the next 5,000 or until you get a little hungry/addicted to modding...(Depending on how much you willing to spend...) 1. Drop in Filter 2. Catback exhaust:thumbsup: Btw...Congrads on the ride! Looks wicked! Wishing you many miles of smiles and skid marks:burnrubber: |
Congrats bru welcome to the family
|
Thank you very much for the warm welcome.
Do you guys maybe have a few suggestions on who can do the vps in Gauteng. |
Congrats!
She looks sweet You need to get her a$$ wagging and your smile will extend all the way around your head I've been using Engen and it's been fine. Have tried Shell but I have to admit I dont drive the car often enough to notice a difference. It's my wife's daily. I agree, get the accents painted rite  |
Welcome. Looks too nice!
The only extras I would suggest is maybe an extra savings account for the tyres which you might be replacing if you get addicted to wagging her tail. Happy motoring bud! |
welcome dude, I was never a fan of VPS, because it looks kak after a while, however after seeing whats happening to my vrous 86, 5000km and a fair bit of stonechips, paint seems to be thin or softer than normal. it could be a good idea
As for fuel, well shell and BP and made in the same refinery in prospecton, additives may vary. Engen primax is not bad Total comes from natref along with one or two others caltex also comes from natref I think and another refinery in cape town I used to be heavily involved in the development and upgrades of refineries so i was involved alot with them. ( when i used to be a real engineer and not some suck up forced to sell engineering equipment to people that dont want or need them, how i miss those days, you wont believe how hard it is to get back) and honestly, I have tried different fuels and Im hard pressed to even come up with a definitive answer, most butt dyno feelings of more power and increased fuel consumption cannot really be gauged in the real world due to the large amount of variables and different driving styles etc. Basically go for 95 ron and nothing else, I actually saw the other day the fuel falp says minimum 98 ron, Well until the day we can get 98 from the pumps that is 95 will have to do. For track and some competitive driving octane booster will make a difference, apparantly these cars pull timing alot due to our crappy fuel. and on a hot day in jhb, you might as well be driving a tazz, car is dead dead dead, why why why cant we get higher RON fuel!!! |

i agree, why is that, that the car has no to zero power? some times its so bad you might as well park, get out and walk................... |

Gear down guys!
:laughabove: I used to find my old 20 valve RXI used to perform well on hotter days but needed 95 octane or it was pap! My 86 has gotten better with km - less of that pinging and misbehaving now with over 45k km on the clock. Quote:

Welcome and congrats!
Sasol all the way. Have seen pinging with Engen 95 on the dyno, BP not far behind. Also done some fuel cons testing - 2 tanks Sasol, 2 tanks Shell then 2 Sasol again. Used just over 1l/100km more with Shell. As for pulling timing - been monitoring mine and to be honest, I have not seen it pulling any timing on Sasol under any conditions. GeeTee86 has noticed it pulling a lot with Shell Nitro though. VPS - Edenvale VPS, speak to Marc. They do awesome work and the big difference is that they wrap the film over the panel edges where possible to make it a lot less visible. I've had it on my car for 2 years now and it still looks good. Exhaust - BRZ one from Subaru. Paint - as per Vic, get them painted right, the dealer should have known better. |

Make sure your DRL are working, a common problem with the car. |

The reason that sasol is better could be down to the fact that its not piped up to the reef like the other fuels that are refined on the coast. Its also manufactured differently, Sasol is made entirely from coal whereas the other ones are made with crude oil, like everyting else They use one multi product pipeline for everything, diesel, 93 ULP, 93 LRP, 95 ULP etc. they basically run one type of fuel and send a another one after it in the same pipeline, ( I was also involved in the developement of it, and its something about the speed of the flow the stops them from mixing) Dont fully understand that as I was involved on the electrical switcgear side. So you can be assured that some mixing is going an and its highly unlikely that the consistancy of the fuel is going to the same always. Maybe I should just fill up with Sasol. |
