Just purchased my '13 BRZ with 1,800 miles. Should I change the oil?

Hey all. New to the BRZ crowd, but I'm familiar with the modding culture.

Anyways, my car has 1,800 miles but the original owner purchased it in May 2013. He left abruptly on duty after a few months. Should I go ahead and change the oil now and change it again at 7,500 miles? I found a guide online that states the oil should be changed every 7.5 months.

Congrats with your awesome purchase. I would change the oil immediately just because they have been sitting for quite awhile. Also starting from 2015 they change it to every 6000 mile, I would go with the new guideline.

you are a new owner, You should change all the fluids. Oil, Transmission Fluid and rear Dif fluid. Just my 2 cents. Upgrade the trans fluid and dif to full synthetic. I recommend redline mt90.

Thanks for your responses. I definitely understand why I should change the engine oil but is a diff/transmission flush really necessary at its current age?

Yeah, I'd change the engine oil just based on time, I change mine every 12 months regardless of mileage, but so far the mileage has always been less than 5000 miles per year. Isn't necessary to change any other fluids at this point based on time or mileage, but a lot of people like to change out their trans and diff fluids and claim improvements switching to other synthetic fluids. Totally your preference, so far I've been fine with factory fill on my mine.

For good measure I would change the oil now and again at 7,500 miles. Congratulations!

My 2015 BRZ's service manual says oil change every 12 months or 9000 miles but I'm in Europe. How long warranty you get in US?

Congrats for new car!

Thank you. I've decided to change the oil now with Amsoil 0w-20 and oem subaru filter. I bought a new O-ring gasket, too. At this point, I think I'm going to wait until the 7,500 mile service before I change the diff and tranny fluid. The car feels fine right now.

I have 3 years or 36,000 miles... I think. That leaves me with only a year and half or 34,000 miles. I'm not driving 34,000 miles - I think it's safe to say it's going to be a year before my factory warranty is up.

Changing the diff and tranny fluid is absolute overkill. Not even remotely necessary at this mileage, regardless if your vehicle was purchased used.

Maybe but he didn't say where he bought it from.

If it is an 1800 mile dorifto demo might as well change it. Can't hurt and only cost like $100 if you do it yourself.

I change all my oils everyone I purchased a used car. Good luck!!!

FWIW, I just picked up a 2015 FR-S. The service manual says to change it at 7500, not 6000.

Good point, but the car was purchased from a very large and reputable Mercedes dealership in the DC area with a professional staff.
