TOP GEAR: USA

Last nights episode of TG:USA ('What Does It Take') was so-so until the last 5 minutes or so when Tanner Foust (will drift ANY car he can) drifted a new 684 HP Rolls Royce up Mulholland Drive. Had Adam in the back seat......

Was waiting for him to biff it into the hill too...

so dissapoint

I liked TF when he had his own show, but find Top Gear USA utterly unwatchable and incredibly pretentious. It's as bad as the real Top Gear is good.

Agreed. I can't stand watching it. It's like meeting two girls and having to go home with the ugly one. I just keep saying WHYYYY????

Yeah. Top Gear: US, and Korea, are not good. However, they might be okay if BBC top gear didn't exist.

TopGear USA is like a Harley Davidson.

BBC TopGear is like a Ducati.

Totally different cultures.

So what your saying is that TG-USA makes less power with more noise? :iono:

I'm saying that TopGear USA is utter garbage, likely watched by the same people who enjoy NASCAR, Budweiser, mullets, and speak in an affected southern drawl.

I just didn't want to come right out and say it in case someone on this forum liked Budweiser.

It just seems so much more heavily/badly scripted. I just feel like their personalities are so forced. Top Gear UK SEEMS more comfortable, even during clearly scripted events.

White64Goat 10-04-2014 09:55 PM

Top Gear UK just got their butts run out of Argentina if you didn't read about it......

chaoskaze 10-04-2014 11:05 PM

Top gear US? ...... I don't think I saw another show more scripted & play by horrible actors lasted that long. Complete utter junk.

clayrush 10-06-2014 02:16 AM

Haters gonna hate.

Of course it is not better than the og. But still a decent show to have on in the background. And still better than 90% of the crap on tv. Other than racing, most "car shows" in America are scripted.
I guarantee BBC Top Gear is for a lot of stuff. But they are way better at it.

I may like the show a bit because I know most of the places that they go.

Wow. Can you throw any more stereotypes into one sentence? :)

Well, I don't watch NASCAR, don't drink Budweiser, don't have enough hair to grow a mullet, but I do speak with a southern drawl. Even so, I do watch TOP GEAR: USA, primarily because I enjoy the "buddy film" aspect of the segments. I just treat it as it is, scripted semi-fiction.

I don't think there is anyone on here that wouldn't love to go out with 2 buddies, buy some old cars and put them "to the test" and be able to legally get away with it.

Not sure why they have chosen to stick to that particular part of the TOP GEAR formula and throw out the rest of it. It would be better if it included shorter segments and more of the other "faux review" portions of Top Gear UK.

Bottom line, as some have said, both shows are scripted. The UK trio has just gotten better at making it their own, and the writers are better at highlighting their personalities. I mean does anybody really think James May single-handedly built a "space shuttle Yugo" (correction: "space shuttle Reliant Robin" thanks @HunterGreene )?
