Catless Headers

Hello, all. DMV newbie here with a question: is it worth the gamble against VA emissions up here to install the OpenFlash headers with a Nameless cat? I.E. likely to pass inspection or do I need to find a flexible mechanic? Does anybody know how much a ticket for tampering with the exhaust system is up here? I've already swapped the axleback and the OEM one is in another state... I appreciate any input before I go and throw a bunch of money at shiny new parts.

Removing cat is illegal under federal law.
You'll likely need to re-install your stock header before inspections to pass.

Okay, thanks for the tip; any idea how much the ticket would be if I was to get tagged by the heat? Does the state do the inspections up here, or certified mechanics?

No idea, I think any mechanic can do inspections, I see Isleton signs at gas stations. No idea about ticket cost. Sry.

When I lived in Alexandria you needed to pass an emissions test and inspection before you could register your car. Inspectors needed to pass an approved course before doing inspections. Registration is dependent on it. It is also a violation of federal law to remove it. They don't generally give tickets for it but for expired plates they will.

So, since I need to change to VA tags, I should get everything done right before swapping my tubes. Then, next year at inspection time, swap back to OEM headers for the inspection. That could work?

Yup..

Anybody know a mechanic hereabouts? I need to figure out what the yearly expense for all the part swapping will be. I'd do it myself, but I doubt the management at my apartment building would be happy with me putting my car on jackstands in the parking lot. /rapidlycomplicatingsituation

Doubt they would mind if your car is in stands for an hr once every few months... You can always just go all your local repair shop.

Is it emissions or regular inspections that do the visual with the mirrors or lift? If it's emissions, isn't that every two years? OFT will take care of the code issues, so I only need to worry about that visual, I'm given to understand.

Not sure if it actually is this much but my friend used to get like $500-1000 fix it tickets for the headers on his prelude. But his car was brutally loud so he got a lot of attention lol.
