Fixing a big freaking scratch
I backed up into a curb, like a doofus, and gashed my rear bumper a bit. Does anyone think that I can successfully cover this enough by sanding it a bit and trying to use touch up paint or should I just buy a new rear bumper?

New bumper. Rematch is tough on Whiteout. Yet will look better than a sand down and touch up.

Maybe get rear spats that cover it up.

Do you have experience sanding? If not go with a kit like Dr. Colorchip or Langka.
Here's a quick review of mine on the Dr. Colorchip kit on a similar scratch on Satin White Pearl. In an inconspicuous spot like that I'd just touch it up. Not worth a repaint. Blending can be extremely difficult on certain colors; especially if it has a tint coat. |
a new bumper wont do you any good. they come from toyota/subrau un-primed raw plastic. touch it up, if you cant live with that, have it repaired at a bodyshop

I committed the same sin, and the gash looks almost exactly the same. Down to the metal, but I don't worry about rust, cuz California.
It bothers me, but not enough to get it professionally repainted, and it's too big for touchup to look good. It reminds me of that terrible moment when I heard it slide across the curb...I'll never forget that sound. |
Thanks guys, this is not a metal panel so no rust and the scratch is really down low so you dont notice it unless you are down low or away from the car. I guess I'll live with it until I order a new bumper and have it sprayed.
It did make a terrible sound when it went over the curb. :( |

I had a worse scratch than that fixed on another car for 300 cash. Was some similar scratches on front bumper and adjacent front fender.
Good luck |
