Timing Chain Cover Leak

Has anyone seen oil leaking from this spot? It's on the driver's side of the engine.

Is that the CPS plug?

Crank Position Sensor? Not sure, it's at the far end of the block on the driver's side. This is a view from underneath the car, btw.

It seems to be coming from the 12mm bolt that's right beside that plug.

If I am looking at this picture right its probably the timing chain cover pissing oil.

My bad, I should have been more specific on the location. I can see how it would look like that, though.

This is at the back of the engine. The head of that 12mm bolt is toward the front of the car.

I was just underneath the car checking the torque on my header bolts when I looked to the left and saw this.

Then again, maybe I'm smoking crack and my memory is failing me... that definitely looks like the CPS according to the exploded diagram - in which case it would seem that the timing chain cover is indeed pissing oil.

Well this is where it looks like to me feel free to update it, if I am wrong.
If its right looks like timing chain cover.

Other thing too is make sure its not wet under your oil filter plate. (Just make sure its not dripping oil from top.)
I dont know your situation if you have oil cooler or someone changes your oil but some idiots can take off filter and spill oil all over and it will drip down.

I'm seeping oil from that exact same spot.

Just went out to check, you are exactly right. I don't know why, but I really thought it was farther back on the engine. Thanks for your help.

I'll take it into the dealer and have them fix it, need a new throw out bearing anyway. At 18,000 miles, this is not good.

Updated thread title for ease of search.

Thanks for the info, I didn't realize this was a widespread problem.

Resurrection post. I guess I'm relieved to see I am not alone. But very discouraged to see that it looks like a waste of time to get fixed if its just going to start leaking again...

Currently getting an EFR6758 installed when this was discovered. So annoyed. I'm guessing at this point I wont be able to even attempt to have this repaired under warranty. I'm currently at 38k.

What would you guys recommend I do at this point? I don't want to pull the motor myself unless I'm dropping in a built one.

wouldn't this be covered under the 5 years/60,000 mile warranty?

xkalelx 09-14-2015 02:06 PM

That's what I would think but I'm actively voiding my warranty with this turbo build. Wish I would have done a thorough inspection prior to this.
