Parking Protection - Looking for advice.

Hello!

I live in Jersey City and park on the street.
This gives me so much anxiety. I sometimes run out to check on the car.

How can I protect my baby?
  • I have a Blackvue dash camera on the way(front/back).
  • Today I installed the Tow Hook License Plate Mount and want to add a bumper guard to it.
  • Someone suggested using tow hook for the rear, but I'm not a fan of the look. I could accept using the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/GOLD-Bumper-Bully-Extreme-Protection/dp/B000XEBI9K/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1412041463&sr= 1-1&keywords=bumper+bully"]bumper bully[/ame] over night if that offers real protection.

I am looking for any thoughts. Ideas.

I've already been involved in someone hitting my last car, an Altima, and I captured the whole thing on tape.

WARNING: May be disturbing for some viewers.

She cracked the bumper in half and disputed ever touching the car.

Don't forget to order a pocket protector with these...

Lots of people here in DC have that bumper buddy thing for the rear.

This makes me wonder... if I install large chrome spikes in the front and rear, I think other people would be much more careful when parking near me...

Move.

Sorry, but I would have a vehicle with a higher profile and some thick bumpers (pickup, Jeep, etc) if I lived in a city where people parked by feel. A small sports car stands no chance against larger vehicles seeing it. And their rear bumper might line up with your hood, not your license plate, so without mounting a push bar to the front of your car, you don't have too many good options.

Jersey City... yeah i will just move to new location.
or just live with it

I lived in Jersey City from 2004-2005. I had an Audi A4 at the time. The first night I stayed there, someone tried to break into it. The driver side door lock was heavily damaged.

My advice is to rent a garage. There are lots of houses with separate garages for rent. I found one about 6 blocks from my apartment, and took the bus to work daily rather than drive. There is little reason to own a car around there, with so many options for public transportation.

Sad to say, but your car will get trashed from parking on the street in Jersey City. Just take a look at everyone else's car. Not to mention jealous people walking by and wanting to put a scratch in it.

I have a neighbor who parks behind my Jeep and keeps sideswiping the bumpers when she pulls out into the street. I haven't made a big deal out of it because the bumpers are trashed already, and I have a set of big nasty steel bumpers to replace them. However, I've seriously been considering welding steel barbs on the corners of the new rear bumper to catch her front bumper and rip it off her minivan the next time she hits it.

Do it! Lol. Some people are asses

Yeah, and that's only half the story. I park the Jeep on the street and the BRZ in a garage. When she's not parked up my Jeep's ass, she parks so that the front end of her shitbox is sticking out in front of my driveway, making it very difficult to back the BRZ out. I have tried to stay on friendly terms with her, but she's seriously beginning to damage my calm.

If I had to park the BRZ out on the street, the bumpers would have been beat to hell by now.

Isn't this the logic behind using tow hooks in the rear?

Always wondered this about airbags. If instead of an airbag a steel spike shot out and skewered you in the face in the event of an accident, just think how much more careful people would be!

You mean cars that protect you and park themselves and what not aren't making people better drivers?!? :bonk:
