Headers

Hey all,

I just had a few questions.

I have been reading on the forums about getting headers, I need catted headers for the annual motor vehicle inspections that we have (yes, it's stupid we have them, and we need the same amount of cats on the vehicle as there are from factory), so Im thinking on going with the ft86speedfactory uel catted headers.

My questions are :
- does anyone have any other recommendation?
- where would the cheapest place to get them be (I live in Canada)?

Thanks!

If you want @FT-86 SpeedFactory headers, I think you can only get them from FT-86SF. I know they'll ship to Canada, but I don't know how expensive it would be.

Beyond that, P&L makes an EL catted header, HKS makes an EL catted header, I think Nameless and JDL do as well.

Thanks for the insight.

What would you recommend? I know it's a vague question, and has been beat to death, but from what I have found and heard, the ft86sf ones are better than the rest? I just want to know before I invest.

I really want a nice set of headers that are a good quality header that is catted, and is not going to cost me an arm and a leg for shipping :p

Me personally? If I was looking for a catted header I would go with FT-86SF for a UEL or P&L for an EL. I can't afford to play at HKS's level, and I haven't sufficiently researched the other available options.

Since you're in Canada though, a big part of it comes down to shipping cost or your ability to get it from a local vendor. You may want to check out the Canada regional forum to see what they recommend before making a final decision.

Also, make sure you budget for a tuning solution to go with your header. Without it you'll miss out on most of the gains that a header can provide. I already have an OFT, so I'm good in that regard.

I got the JDL EL catted and I LOVE it.

@RFB got his ft86speedfactory uel catted headers through BRZWORLD (Barrington) here in the GTA area. Check here for his review sounds like the right one to get but they are still on back order for months due to the time it takes to produce them.

It's only a couple hours, minimal tools and a couple of jackstands to change out the header.

i have no idea about canadian emissions laws but it sucks you need a catted header. Although JDL, P&L and Tomei make some beautifully crafted exhaust manifolds.

Seeing as I need to take my BRZ to the dealership for the annual inspection (to maintain my corrosion warranty), I may be able to talk to the Tech in there since I previously worked in the shop, and see if he will let it by for me. We do not do emissions testing, but we are required to have the same number of catalytic converters on the vehicle as there are from factory.

Thankfully, it will not be hard to do as I have access to all the tools/hoists/jack stands I could want/need at College.

Do they do a visual check?

omfg5041 09-27-2014 10:38 PM

Yeah, it's only a visual check. In rare cases, they will take a pyrometer and check the heat changes to make sure it is working.
