How to get that raw drift car exhaust note?
Is this only possible with a test pipe? It doesn't have to be LOUD, but all the exhausts i've heard sound too muffled.. i guess is the only word i can find to describe it
Also, is there anyway to decrease the lag between the throttle press and engine revs? It seems like these drift cars have instantaneous throttle response and rev much quicker... my frs feels like there's a lag when i step down on the throttle, it makes downshifting way less fun and combined with the crappy exhaust sound just makes it lacklustre. My S2K only needed a HFC and it sounded wicked plus the throttle response on downshifts was amazing. what gives? Just to clarify. I've heard some good loud exhaust notes for the FRS too.. but the problem is none of them really cover up the sound of this tractor engine in the front. at low revs it sounds pretty bad and i've been in an FRS with a Q300, N1, and heard videos of many others... even when you give it throttle it still sounds lackluster from the inside. Want to figure out a way to fix this and give it that "raw" sound straight from the engine |
A lot of drift cars are V8 swaps, and those that aren't are things turbo 4 and 6 cylinders running straight exhausts and revving to 8k+ rpm. Not really sure what you're looking for..
As for throttle response, lightened flywheel is a good start for faster revs. Your post is really vague and general, I would recommend attending some meets and listening to others' exhausts - they sound completely different in person. |

But is there no way we can make this H4 NOT sound like a freakin tractor at low revs? :mad0259::mad0259: And yes, I've looked into flywheels, the s2K oem flywheel is already lightweight which probably explains the quicker throttle response. But it's not something i want to replace until i do my clutch |
S2000's have a throttle cable, so it's pretty much instant response to your gas pedal. Ours is electronic. You can get the engine to rev faster via a lightened flywheel or lightweight pulleys, but I don't think the actual signal can get there any faster.
For the exhaust tone, it's a boxer engine. It's going to sound rough and lumpy at low RPMs and there's not a lot you can do about it. You can get an EL header like P&L's, and that will smooth it out some. If you still want the raw engine sound beyond that, you could get a straight front pipe and some sort of catback with minimal mufflers on it. Maybe the Nameless 4" catback. edit: You could ask @AVOturboworld about their DBW electronic throttle controller; that might help. |
