For the Chicago Guys, we will be starting at Wildberry at Woodfield mall. Some people will be showing up as early as 7 am for breakfast, but we will head out no later than 9:15. Make sure your car is fueled up, and you are as well. I will have a few rest stops along the way.
For the first leg, we will travel from Wildberry to 7500 state park drive along route 12. The travel time is about 1 hour, 45 minutes. There is a nice parking lot on the north east side of Rice lake. There should be ample parking for all of us, and bathrooms. Dmitri and some of the Milwaukee guys should meet us here if they haven't met up with us somewhere on 12 as we drive in. With no traffic, we will get there around 11, and after a 30 minute rest break, we will continue on.
Marys Coffee Express 1225 bus 18-151 mt horeb WI. The travel time is approximately 1 hour 30 min. We should be getting there near 1PM. There is a large parking lot on the north side of the street, but Marys is on the south. It looks like a strip mall from google maps, but it's near where we will come into the area. This will give us a good spot for the guys from Madison to meet up. After another 30 minute break letting the cars cool, and our legs stretch, and/or get gas in the area, we will continue on. Note, Some of the Wisconsin guys are going to continue on to the "Driftless" area. If anyone wants to follow them, or go your own route, you are more than welcome. The entire area along 78 is filled with twisty back roads. You can drive for hours in there and be hard pressed to not find a curvy road sign from what I hear.
2400 Wisconsin 69 New Glarus WI This leg is a little rougher on the time. I'm estimating about 1:15 of travel time along the route I've chosen to loop us around to New Glarus Brewery. If you follow the group, or go your own way, we will take a 45 minute break there to buy beer, relax, pit stop.. etc. We will get there around 2:15, and leave around 3pm.
From here, if you want to continue with the group, we will be heading back to Kettle Moraine, If you are pressed for time, and want to cut it short, this is your chance. You can cut part of the route off when we pass 14 on the way back, and take that to 90. For the rest of us I will head back to Kettle Moraine, and we will be arriving there around 4:30. After one final pit stop and leg stretch, we will come back along 12, and will be back at schaumburg a little before 7.
If you want to stay in Kettle and not do the big loop, you are more than welcome to stay, hike, fish, and relax. It looks like the weather will be a little brisk, but sunny (high of 50 for the current forecast)
A few other things of note, if you go off, try not to go off alone, have a partner just in case. You might not have cell service in every area.
We will become separated. With a group this large it's inevitable. I would like to keep us together, but that's what we have Zello for. Don't worry about running that light so you're not stuck. We will be passing through a few towns, and will try to keep the group together as best we can.
This is my first time leading a group this large, so I expect there to be snafus, but it will only get better from here.
On friday I'll post turn by turn directions of my planned route.
