I just got an FRS


I would like 17x8 wheels that are lightweight (17ish lbs) at a reasonable price. Not looking for the best, just looking for some adequate ones that will be better than stock and improve the general riding experience at a low cost.


Any recommendations?

What's your goal before going down this route? 17-ish pounds for 17x8 is relatively "heavy"...not lightweight.

Your stock wheels are actually good, however, it's purely up to what you're looking for in terms of application, looks, budget, and performance. :thumbsup:

Do you know what tire size you want to run? Also, consider the weight of the tire. I am not sure what type of driving you plan to do. But with a 17x8 wheel with a good tire, it may weigh more than the stock setup. Just consider the weight of them both when pursuing to lose weight in this department. And 17lbs for this wheel size isn't very light. There are many choices that are lighter. Tirerack is one site that has many rims and tires to choose from. However, I am not sure they sell many if any forged wheels for this car that I know of. As forged are lighter than cast.

I probably am interested in 215-225/45/17. i want the wheels/tires to be similar dimensions to stock

Kosei are probablly the most inexpensive light weight wheels you will come by. Size is the question though.

another silly question,


when I get new wheels, do I have to buy a new tpms for it?
and how important is the offset? I know stock offset is +48. is there an ideal number or is this all preference? i'm looking at one with +42.

I'm running 17x9 +42 and the wheels sit almost perfectly flush. With 17x8 you'll have a bit more clearance but they might be a bit tucked.

Rule 1: NEVER listen to anyone who has a fist-sized gap between the top of their tires and the fender in regards to sitting 'flush'.


I'm no advocate for 'hellaflush' but an offset in the 40s will only be flush out front. I have 17x9.5+40 TE37RTs and the front is 'flush' and doesn't rub at full lock. Yes, your TPMS will work with any wheel. My OEM ones are in my current wheels.

I'd say some 17x9+45F (closer to OEM...although I can't fathom WHY you'd want that) RPF1s should be good for you. My TEs are clocking in at 17+lbs but the RPF1 (and Weds TC105n) are hovering near ~15lbs...closer to 14lbs for the Weds.

Use Google, not the forum, to find information on wheels. You can also troll the wheel directory for anything your heart desires. You're going to have to shell out $$$ for lightweight wheels unless you buy used RPF1s. Most will say they're 'played-out' but then again, so is that term.

You don't have to get TPMS for them; inspection here in NJ doesn't care at least, probably the case for MA.
What can be annoying though is...if you drive more than 25 miles straight (without turning car off) the tire pressure light will come on but will go away after a few days. If your daily commute is less than 25 miles you'll have no issues.

Or you can just move the TPMS from stock to new wheels.
