Nail polish removal smell coming from vents.

OK so I noticed this about 6 months back but just thought it was the section of street I was driving thru, 2 weeks later the same smell at a whole different location..... then again a week later.... and so on and so for fourth. Its not a constant smell, happens like every 2-3 weeks.

The smell comes along only for about a minute or 2 then goes away. I pulled over to examine the smell and came to the conclusion that is came from the vents. best way to describe the smell is that of nail polish removal liquid. kinda like alcohol with acetone mix.... never cleaned my interior with chemical products (my interior is normally just wiped down with a moist rag), and I have never cleaned my engine bay either.

One thing I will point out is that I noticed the smell comes along when I rev up high, so getting on the freeway making the yellow light ETC ETC...

Im not sure what AC fluid smells like but I doubt its that since when I do turn on my AC I don't get he smell.

has anyone else gotten a smell like that?

Also thought ide mention, I have borla headers with a CEL light on....but I had the headers on for a year, the smell came along about 6 months ago.

Possible refrigerant leak? Maybe its justs engine bay "smell" leaching into the cabin

that's what my best guess was also.... but I've never smelled refrigerant so I didn't know if that's what it smelled like....

I just recently noticed that when I turn my AC on it sometimes shoots out a very faint fog out for about 4-5 seconds. My old car did that with no smell so I assumed it was normal.

The refrigerant it's self has no odour. But... there is a lubricant that is mixed with it. Had a leak once and it sort of smelled like unscented hairspray (seen it described that way on another forum years ago as well). Your description of the odour is sort of similar so I would get the AC system checked out.

I just started smelling something similiar and it's only when the AC is on.
