Subaru's FT-86 Version still alive and coming confirms Automotive News

Subaru continues to maintain that their version of the FT-86 is still in the works and will come to market. The following just came from Automotive News (usually a solid and no B.S. rumors kind of site).

Quote:

Here are Subaru's product plans:

Sporty coupe: The lightweight two-door being developed with Toyota will give Subaru a needed image vehicle. The exterior of Subaru's version will differ from the Toyota. The rear-drive coupe is expected to be available with either Subaru's 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine or the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine from the Impreza STI. It is unclear whether the car will be a 2012 or 2013 model.

Currently, all Subarus have all-wheel drive. It isn't known whether the new sports car will have that feature.
So it's not new info, but like the recent spy photos, it's more support that the Subaru FT-86 model equivalent continues development towards eventual production

I am really hoping for the 2.5L Turbo

I just hope they can bring it out ASAP

Although i would prefer AWD, i need something to drive in the winter, im tired of driving my Supra in the summer to only put it away for winter and start driving my Golf, lol

If you want AWD just get a WRX :P Why be excited about a new light weight RWD car when you just want what you can already get through subaru?

but WRX isn't coupe. ;)

I just dont see subaru having AWD from a sales stand point. Why would anyone want a 4 door sedan AWD when you could get a lighter, better loooking, coupe AWD with the same motor (maybe). WRX sales would drop drastically I would think.

That maybe... but it's same thing they made coupe & sedan in gc chassis. Believe it or not they made more sedan than coupe and they pretty much sold both of em equally... before I state any false info, let me doubt check...

US only
2000:
Coupe - 5 spd 2,350, auto 530 (total 2,880)
Sedan - 5 spd 1,625, auto 1,600 (total 3,225)

2001:
Coupe - 5 spd 1707, auto 319 (Total 2,019)
Sedan - 5 spd 1058, auto 1007 (Total 2,065)

Just like hatch vs Sedan. Some ppl like sedan over hatch. Some ppl prefer sedan over coupe.

some people who have families prefer 4dr cause of ease of access or could just be personal preference. But there's also the insurance factor I'm sure it would be even cheaper with the 4dr than just the extra seats

I'm wondering if all the 2011/2013 rumours stem from the two different versions. As we still haven't seen an official Subaru concept, maybe it's Toyota's in 2011 and Subaru's in 2013, (when it will come out with a turbo so it doesn't destroy Toyota's sales in the beginning)?

70NYD 09-09-2010 09:39 PM

thats what i have been wondering for a while. but not in regards to the toyota/subi aspect of things more like the ft86 release date has been confused with another concept they are working on.. (fths perhaps??)

ichitaka05 09-09-2010 10:31 PM

iirc Subaru said they gonna work on Hybrid ver around 2013ish (someone posted that news while ago)... so every online auto news f'ckers write "Toyota delays FT86 to 2013 and it'll be hybrid" without confirming w Toyota. Then Toyota official said/write "FU, online auto news f'ckers! Who said we gonna delay it til 2013? That's Subaru and not us. We're still aiming to release at 2011." (my ver of Toyota official translation lol)

Just all those online and mag writer need to get the info straight
