My Build. Built, Boosted, Tucked and more Titanium than you can lift!
This has been WAYYYY to long in the making. Long story short i blew my motor up back in early 2013. The car had roughly 3k miles on it and broke a few rods...complete loss. Since then we have sold quite a few headers and turbo systems, with my car pretty much sitting on a lift constantly having parts fitted and prototyped on. Great for business, but 18 months later I have a real itch to get this thing together!
My end goal is pretty simple...sub 2600lb car with all the comfort features making 500 whp that can handle good, stop good and maybe enter a car show here and there...simple right?...Well we'll see! First a few pictures of the old setup. Twin scroll PTE 5130 kit on AEM series 2 EMS. https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...9615bc10638299 https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...8fc859cb180a64 https://scontent-a-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/...8d&oe=548C2E3C That setup didn't last long...broke 2 rods on the dyno. After a long down time started the rebuild about a month ago. The plan for the motor was simple. Lower the compression and forged internals. After sourcing a complete longblock from our Friends at N1Concepts, we went with some CP pistons, Brian Crower rods, ARP hardware and Kelford Springs for the head. Heads leaving to machine shop https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...0c284d0d2f1017 Shortblock leaving to our builder, UMS Tuning here in Mesa, AZ. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...55164658_o.jpg At this point i started building some of the turbo and exhaust system after hours and on weekends. I'm far from a "Subaru Guy" but i will admit i fell in love with the UEL sound, so the manifold choice was easy. UEL manifold setup for a VBand Tial exhaust housing to ease of installation and some nice weight savings over a standard housing. I love the look of the raw welds as much as anyone but i wanted it to always look new so had the manifold ceramic coated chrome. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...b969f228ff2ede https://scontent-b-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/...24&oe=54CA731E It's common sense that adding a turbo system adds weight, which i'm trying to lose in this build. The manifold is constructed of our standard heavy duty stainless steel that all the production ones are made of. I didn't want to risk anything there. I knew starting with the downpipe and going all the way back to rear, i could save quite a bit of weight going with Titanium. It's definitely not cheap, and rather time consuming, however i feel the weight savings and visual appeal are well worth the trade off! I needed some custom flanges machined for the downpipe, so while waiting on started from the Overpipe back. Full 3" overpipe https://scontent-b-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/...98&oe=54CDDFCE https://scontent-a-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/...ee&oe=54968D83 Full 3" Overpipe, 3" Frontpipe and 3" Resonated Midpipe...ALL Ti. Next i wanted to address the appearance of the car. Personally most of the widebody kits are a bit much for me. I picked up some Todoroki fenders awhile back along with a Rexspeed lip kit. Simple and clean, we'll be putting a few custom touches on those too! JDM Headlights i picked up from a forum member. https://scontent-a-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/...be&oe=5497DD88 Todoroki Fenders getting fitted and bodyworked. https://scontent-a-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/...7b&oe=54950859 Here's a small shot of one of the Intercooler pipes. This is the accent color on the car. Might tell you alittle bit about the wheels, etc ;) https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...5ba17a893a0bea I've always been a big fan of nice clean engine bays. Naturally with the motor out i wanted to paint mine. https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...ae34ff1ad73e17 At the last minute i decided to fab up a strut bar before the fresh paint so nothing got scratched later on. https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...313d95a6eee5fa A good buddy of mine, who owns a shop about a mile from ours, happens to build some pretty nice Honda's. https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...d7431325f4502e He's been wanting to do some FRS stuff so he approached me about doing my engine bay. I was hesitant at first as i know the amount of work that it takes and how tedious it can be having personal experience doing it to my Honda years back. After some persuasion, and me fabricating some quick sheetmetal parts, The RCG guys got to work. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...0b8b6a22499762 Wilwood Brake Master Cylinder with RCG Booster Delete Plate. https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...f7fee3b25be0a0 Overhead shot...It's black. The ceiling reflection distorts it. :) https://scontent-b-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/...a7&oe=54D07C17 That's about were everything is at as of right now. The car will at our Booth this weekend @ 86FEST running or not, so anyone there feel free to check it out! We'll have a bunch more updates daily through out the week, and maybe even some higher quality non cell phone pics. :P |
